[Hiring] Assessment Specialist @Second Nature

2d ago - Second Nature is hiring a remote Assessment Specialist. πŸ’Έ Salary: unspecified πŸ“Location: UK

Role Description

We're looking for a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) or HCPC-registered Dietitian to join our bank team as an Assessment Specialist at one of the UK's most exciting health-tech companies.

In this role, you'll assess people living with obesity as they enter our service, helping to decide which intervention pathway suits them best. You'll work as part of a multidisciplinary team within our Specialist Weight Management Service (SWMS).

This is a fully remote role. All assessments take place over video call, and you can be based anywhere in the UK. You can choose anything from 5 hours a week up to full-time (40 hours/week) within our operational hours. Flexibility is required to support some early evenings and Saturdays as and when needed to support our NHS contracts.

The Challenge

  • More than 1 in 4 adults in the UK are living with obesity; a chronic condition that often negatively impacts their physical and mental health, and therefore quality of life.
  • Access to specialist weight management services for the treatment of obesity remains limited and varies geographically due to a lack of funding.
  • Existing services face long waiting lists, resulting in treatment delays which can adversely affect patient outcomes.

About us

  • We've positively changed the lives of 300,000+ people through accessible, evidence-based healthcare.
  • We're rated 'Excellent' on Trustpilot by over 8,000 of our members.
  • We're the UK’s largest digital health provider to the NHS.
  • We're a leading B2C provider of GLP-1 medication-assisted weight loss programmes, and 1 of 5 NICE-approved providers to deliver these services within the NHS in the future.
  • Our team members stay with us for an average of 4.3 years.

The role

We're looking for a dynamic Assessment Specialist who is passionate about making a positive difference to those living with obesity. You'll join our bank staff in response to increased service demand. You will be part of an innovative Specialist Weight Management Service (SWMS) that uses a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) approach to obesity treatment and technology to optimise patient engagement and outcomes.

The main focus of this role is assessing patients as they enter our service. You'll run assessments over video call and gather detailed patient information to inform clinical decisions and find the most suitable intervention pathway. Where needed, assessments will include risk assessments for suicidal ideation/self-harm. You'll need to be able to work on your own, and you'll have access to clinical supervision and support from a Practitioner Psychologist.

This is a bank contract running from November to March, with the possibility of extending depending on the needs of the service. You can work anything from 5 hours a week up to full-time (40 hours/week). Flexibility is required to support some early evenings and Saturdays as and when needed to support our NHS contracts.

What you'll do:

  • Independently assess patients for intervention pathways within our specialist weight management service.
  • Create individual formulations based on initial screening and assessment, drawing on your own clinical expertise within weight management/eating disorders, psychological theory, current research, and relevant guidelines, e.g. NICE.
  • Attend regular MDT meetings to discuss assessments and monitor the care of our patients.
  • Attend clinical supervision with a Practitioner Psychologist to discuss complex or high-risk cases.
  • Appropriately manage clinical risk (e.g. safeguarding concerns) when it arises during assessments.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act and ensuring that participant confidentiality is protected at all times.

Qualifications

  • A qualified PWP or HCPC-registered Dietitian with experience of weight management and/or bariatric work, or of working with patients in a mental health or eating disorder setting.
  • Experience of conducting initial assessments and consultations to determine intervention pathway, including risk assessments for suicidal ideation/self-harm.
  • A solid understanding of obesity as a condition and the issues many people living with obesity face, including weight stigma.
  • Able to provide supportive, empathetic patient-centred care to patients who may have complex physical and mental health needs.
  • Comfortable working fully remotely.
  • Enjoy remote working and can stay motivated and organised without an office around you.
  • Have a suitable home working setup, including a private space for confidential consultations and a reliable internet connection.
  • Can work autonomously and collaboratively with a doctor-led multidisciplinary team (MDT) to ensure patients are correctly assessed and allocated to intervention pathways.
  • Confidently and independently manage a caseload of patients for assessment, escalate relevant issues to our MDT and work closely with them.
  • Dynamic and have a strong drive to work in healthcare tech.
  • Experience thriving in fast-paced environments and are energised by the dynamic nature of start-up life, where being hands-on and adaptable to the evolving needs of the service is essential.
  • Confident in using technology to provide patient care, including recording and reviewing patient notes.
  • Excited by digital initiatives that increase access to healthcare.

Education/Qualifications

  • Qualified Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner with BABCP/BPS registration, or
  • HCPC registration as a Dietitian.

To apply

Please submit your CV and cover letter via this application page, and include your BABCP, BPS or HCPC registration number. Unfortunately, we're unable to progress applications without appropriate registration. Due to the high volume of applications we receive, we may not be able to respond to everyone individually. If we don't have a chance to get back to you, we're not intentionally being rude, but please assume it's a no for now!

Benefits

  • Work from home with flexible hours to fit around your lifestyle.
  • Joining a culture of intelligent, friendly, and highly-motivated individuals who're passionate about what they do.
  • A competitive market salary.
  • Fully paid line management and clinical supervision, ensuring you have regular support and professional growth.
  • Training and development opportunities.
