Role Description

Position responsible for providing high quality medical nutrition therapy and weight management education to patients and clients in the clinics. Areas of responsibility include:

• Assessment of nutritional needs
• Provision of medical nutrition therapy
• Weight management education

The incumbent is required to function on a multi-disciplinary team as a resource to the physician staff and others. May participate in community service by providing nutrition education to various groups or individuals outside the hospital.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Food & Nutrition or related area
• Master's required if registration was obtained after Jan 1, 2024
• Must be registered with the ADA Commission on Dietetic Registration
• Licensed with Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)
• CPR Certification (Heart Saver only) from either American Red Cross or American Heart Association or obtained within six (6) months of hire
• Completion of a qualified professional experience required for the registered dietitian exam administered by the ADA Commission on Dietetic Registration
• Ability to interact positively with many types of people
• Effective oral and written communication skills

Requirements

• Collaborates with the multi-disciplinary treatment team
• Establishes goals for nutrition care of patients, conducts assessments, and develops individualized nutrition care plans with ongoing evaluation of nutrition status
• Provides medical nutrition therapy to patients and clients appropriate for their age
• Modifies nutrition regimens according to food preferences, tolerances, and cultural and religious preferences
• Documents nutrition care plans in the medical record, including nutrition assessment, monitoring parameters, goals and recommendations
• Provides nutrition education to patients and/or families that is appropriate for age, religious beliefs, and cultural background
• Ensures safe care to patients, staff, and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service
• Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education, skills competency, supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff
• Demonstrates commitment to caring for every member of our community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences
• Models Memorial Hermann’s service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues
