Role Description

The ACLU seeks an Undergraduate Social & Store Intern in the Communications and Marketing Department of the ACLU’s National office in New York City. This internship can be part-time or full-time and is fully remote. Qualifying applicants must currently be matriculated undergraduate students or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience and must be based in the U.S. for the entire duration of the internship.

The ACLU’s Communications & Marketing Department team focuses on growing our existing audiences and acquiring new audiences by smartly using digital channels to reach and inspire them to take action. We create rich and compelling written, multimedia, and graphic design content that are used in key email, texting, social, merchandise, and paid media programs that help raise money, get our message out into the world, and mobilize existing and new supporters.

What You’ll Do

• Aiding in running the store in the most efficient, cost-effective, and profitable way possible.
• Assisting the ACLU’s social media team in researching, producing, scheduling, and measuring the performance of content posted across various platforms.
• Regular online store updates including:
  • Product page set up
  • Copywriting
  • Digital marketing support
• Helping brainstorm new products, merchandise strategies, and promotional campaigns.
• Product photography for social media and email marketing.
• Collecting and analyzing budget, inventory, and sales data using Excel.
• Supporting metrics reporting and data analysis for social media copywriting.
• Researching the latest industry trends to influence marketing, ecommerce, and product strategy.
• Producing social media content, including scripting, on-screen appearances, and TikTok production.

Qualifications

• Previous ecommerce experience for a major brand or retailer.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and comfortable analyzing data.
• Experience using social media for professional, academic, or extracurricular purposes.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team.
• Strong computer skills, particularly web-based research including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel).
• Attention to detail and excellent written communication skills.

Internship Logistics

• Location: Our internship program offers a limited number of remote or hybrid intern positions. This internship can be part-time/full-time and hybrid/remote from our New York City office.
• Time Commitment: Part-time (20hrs/week) or Full-time (35hrs/week).
• Internship Duration:
  • Part-time internships span 12 consecutive weeks.
  • Full-time internships span 10 consecutive weeks.
• Start Date: January 11th or January 25th, 2027.
• Stipend: A stipend is available for students who are lawfully authorized to work. Arrangements can be made with educational institutions for work/study or course credit. Below are the stipend rates:
  • $20/hr for undergraduate students or equivalent experience.
