Role Description
The Digital Marketing Specialist-Patient Recruitment will develop and manage clinical trial recruitment campaigns. This includes designing, executing, and optimizing omni-channel campaigns that drive patient awareness, education, and enrollment in clinical trials. This position will sit at the intersection of digital marketing, patient advocacy, and clinical operations, and apply a strong understanding of regulated pharmaceutical advertising, data-driven marketing, and performance measurement. This role is both strategic and hands-on and will manage campaigns in-platform while collaborating cross-functionally with Clinical Operations, Medical Affairs, Legal/Regulatory, and external agencies.
Essential Functions

Develop and implement multi-channel patient recruitment campaigns, including medical congress support, digital media strategies, and content development.

Plan, launch, and optimize paid media campaigns across channels including Meta (Facebook/Instagram), Google Search & Display, YouTube, Programmatic, and disease-specific patient communities and advocacy platforms.

Align media plans with study timelines, enrollment targets, and budget parameters.

Monitor campaign performance in real time and optimize for cost per lead (CPL), conversion rates (CR), qualified patient submissions, site referrals, and enrollment progression.

A/B test creative, messaging, audiences, and landing pages to improve performance.

Partner with analytics teams/agencies to track attribution and patient journey metrics.

Work with internal teams and agencies to develop compliant, patient-centric digital content including ad copy, visual assets, landing pages, and educational materials.

Ensure all creative aligns with regulatory, legal, and brand guidelines.

Collaborate closely with Clinical Operations, Medical Affairs, Legal/Regulatory/PRC, Patient Advocacy, external media, and creative agencies.

Manage digital media budgets and pacing.

Oversee relationships with media agencies, publishers, and technology vendors.

Negotiate placements, pricing, and performance-based agreements where applicable.

Produce regular performance reports and insights for internal stakeholders.

Identify trends, risks, and opportunities to improve recruitment efficiency.

Stay current on digital trends, privacy changes (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR, platform policies), and evolving best practices in patient recruitment marketing.

Perform ad-hoc and cross-functional duties and/or projects to support business needs and provide developmental opportunities.
Qualifications

Bachelorβs degree in Marketing, Journalism, Advertising, Communications, or related field.

5+ years of experience in digital media, performance marketing, or growth marketing required.

Experience in healthcare, pharma, biotech, CRO, or clinical trial recruitment is preferred.

Experience recruiting patients for clinical trials is preferred.

Experience working within highly regulated environments is preferred.

Experience working with patient advocacy groups is preferred.

Working Environment / Physical Environment

This position works remotely - San Francisco, CA.

Regular work schedule is Monday β Friday, within standard business hours. Flexibility is available with manager approval.

This position will require some travel (approximately 3-4 trips per year).

Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer.
Compensation
-
This position is eligible for a discretionary bonus and equity award.

The annual base pay range for this position is $135,000 (entry-level qualifications) to $148,500 (highly experienced) annually.
