Role Description

The Linux Systems Administrator maintains smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with network engineers. Responsibilities include:

  • Monitors and manages system resources, including CPU usage, disk usage, and response times to maintain operating efficiency.
  • Performs systems security administration functions, including creating user profiles and accounts.
  • Sets up administrator accounts, maintains system documentation, tunes system performance, installs system-wide software, and allocates mass storage space.
  • Interacts with users and evaluates vendor products, making recommendations to purchase hardware and software.
  • Coordinates installation and provides backup recovery.
  • Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources.
  • Installs, configures, and maintains infrastructure components in a virtualized Linux Environment.
  • Fully manages the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of all aspects of Linux servers.
  • Administers, troubleshoots, and resolves failures and critical alerts on Linux servers.
  • Provides support during off hours for system maintenance and system outages.
  • Utilizes Ansible, RedHat Satellite, and other Linux tools to support the environment.
  • Installs third-party software.
  • Demonstrates experience administering Linux systems in cloud environments, including hands-on work with Microsoft Azure and executing or supporting cloud migration projects.
  • Installs, configures, and maintains DISA STIG Compliant infrastructure components in a virtualized Linux Environment.
  • Implements DISA STIG configuration settings following change management best practices.
  • Has Fapolicyd configuration experience.
  • Maintains system files (groups, hosts, email aliases).
  • Understands system access control and security aspects of critical systems.
  • Demonstrates adherence to security best practices and Technology Services access control and security policies in day-to-day work.
  • Monitors and coordinates with customers on monthly patching.
  • Demonstrates adherence to change control precepts and practices.
  • Writes technical operating system documentation.
  • Ensures excellent Customer Service throughout the Enterprise Systems Operations group.
  • Understands SELinux and user role mapping.
  • Integrates RHEL servers to AD directly.
  • Has knowledge and understanding of containers and configuration using AAP.
  • Understands how BIND works and maintains it.
  • Familiar with Satellite, content views, adding repos, updating manifests.
  • Experienced with bash scripting / AWK / SED / YAML.
  • Utilizes Splunk / Tivoli / and log files to troubleshoot problems.
  • Understands and implements industry standards and best practices.
  • Participates or leads small team efforts within Technology Services.
  • Analyzes and translates business requirements into a solution design for new installations or upgrades to existing platforms.
  • Manages and provides operational support of data availability and retention systems such as server and SAN based backups and enterprise level backup solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 8 years of experience or Master's degree and 6 years of experience or PhD with 3 years of experience.
  • Active CompTIA Security+ certification is required.
  • Active Secret Clearance is required.
  • US citizenship is required.
  • Ability to understand the overall processes and procedures of the organization and make recommendations in the continual improvement of those processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge and experience to write Unix scripts.
  • Ability to participate in patch lifecycle.

Requirements

  • A Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator (RHCSA) certification is desired.
  • Microsoft Azure Fundamentals certification (AZ-900) or equivalent foundational knowledge of Azure cloud services.
  • Microsoft Azure Administrator (AZ-104), Azure Solutions Architect (AZ-305), or DevOps Engineer (AZ-400) certification.

Benefits

  • Salary range: $104,000 - $166,000, determined by various factors including scope and responsibilities, experience, education, knowledge, skills, competencies, geographic location, and business considerations.
  • Employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
