Role Description

The Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet advances education, workforce development, and economic opportunity across the Commonwealth. This is a federally funded time-limited (FFTL) position, meaning it is paid entirely as a result of a federal grant. The duration of employment shall not exceed the life of the federal grant that funds the position.

This position requires routine travel to and from the workstation, as it is crucial for conducting on-site audits and investigations. A remote workstation may be offered based on the selected candidate’s home address within specific counties.

• Audits employer payroll records to assure compliance with KY UI tax laws and regulations.
• Applies professional auditing standards, methods, and procedures to review regulatory reporting requirements.
• Secures and/or completes quarterly unemployment wage and tax reports.
• Determines coverage of claimants not previously reported.
• Completes and submits daily reports, monthly reports, travel vouchers, and timesheets.
• Determines subjectivity status of employers and secures forms required to establish or void employer accounts.
• Assists in the application of legal action to enforce collection and serves as a witness in tax appeal hearings.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree that includes twelve semester hours or eighteen quarter hours in accounting, finance, or statistics courses.

Requirements

• Three years of professional level experience in unemployment insurance, accounting, banking, finance, bookkeeping, payroll, statistics, or determining eligibility for government benefit programs will substitute for the required accounting, finance, or statistics hours.

Working Conditions

• Duties are performed both in and out of an office setting.
• Travel is usually performed within an assigned area of the state, with occasional overnight travel required.

Probationary Period

• This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months.
