[Hiring] Underwriter/Sr. Underwriter, MPL @At-Bay

Role Description

As an Underwriter / Senior Underwriter, Miscellaneous Professional Liability, you'll play a key role in growing At-Bay's MPL portfolio by:

• Underwriting new and renewal MPL business.
• Developing strong broker partnerships.
• Making sound risk selection and pricing decisions.
• Owning and growing a book of business.
• Collaborating with leadership, product, and technology teams.

What You'll Do

• Underwriting & Portfolio Management:
  • Underwrite new and renewal MPL business, evaluating professional exposures, loss history, financial information, contractual obligations, and other relevant risk characteristics.
  • Assess, select, price, and structure risks in accordance with underwriting guidelines, authority levels, and profitability objectives.
  • Negotiate coverage, pricing, limits, terms, conditions, and endorsements with brokers.
  • Manage and grow a profitable book of business.
  • Monitor portfolio trends, market conditions, and emerging professional liability exposures.
• Broker Relationships & Business Development:
  • Build, maintain, and expand relationships with retail and wholesale broker partners.
  • Develop and execute territory and broker engagement strategies.
  • Serve as a trusted underwriting partner to brokers.
  • Represent At-Bay at broker meetings, industry events, and other business development opportunities.
  • Identify cross-selling opportunities across At-Bay's insurance offerings.
• Strategy, Collaboration & Innovation:
  • Partner with underwriting leadership to refine MPL risk appetite, pricing strategies, underwriting guidelines, and product offerings.
  • Collaborate with product, actuarial, claims, technology, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Leverage data, analytics, and technology to make informed underwriting decisions.
  • Contribute market intelligence and broker feedback.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for MPL.

Qualifications

• Experience underwriting Miscellaneous Professional Liability (MPL), Professional Liability (E&O), or closely related specialty commercial insurance products.
• Strong understanding of professional liability exposures, coverage forms, policy terms, exclusions, pricing considerations, and risk selection.
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate risks and exercise sound underwriting judgment.
• Experience developing and managing broker relationships.
• Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
• Comfortable using technology, data, and analytics.
• Highly accountable and detail-oriented.
• An entrepreneurial mindset and interest in building and scaling a growing insurance product.
• A team-first approach, with the ability to share knowledge and collaborate across functions.

Benefits

• Estimated base pay range for an Underwriter is $90,000-$115,000.
• Estimated base pay range for a Senior Underwriter is $110,000-$145,000.
• Base salary determined by market data, location, internal equitability, domain knowledge, experiences, and skills.
