Role Description

Tax Processing Specialist

• Prepare 700+ sales and use tax returns monthly for level 2-3 clients, applying in-depth compliance knowledge and independent professional judgment to resolve complex tax reporting issues accurately and on time.
• Independently implement new clients, entities, and data files; ensure seamless onboarding and transition; review client tax data for accuracy, investigate discrepancies, and take corrective action.
• Foster strong client relationships through regular communication, proactive support, and timely response to inquiries; provide support for online filings, payments, and tax authority notice responses.
• Format and import monthly tax data into Vertex Indirect Tax Returns (VITR) software; prepare and maintain monthly client tax compliance reports and documentation.
• Utilize automation and data processing technologies, including Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and Alteryx, to enhance process efficiency and operational accuracy.
• Serve as trainer and mentor to 1-3 junior staff members; actively participate in 1-3 MSO special teams, contributing to process improvements and business initiatives.
• Accommodate additional work hours during peak monthly processing periods, typically the 5th through the 20th of each month.

Qualifications

• 5-8 years of related experience in tax processing, accounting, or a related business discipline.
• In-depth knowledge of sales and use tax compliance regulations, with specialization in one or more compliance areas relevant to level 2-3 clients.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; strong attention to detail with demonstrated ability to manage high-volume, deadline-driven workloads independently.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; customer-focused with experience building productive internal and external working relationships.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and transition work to junior staff members effectively.
• Ability to exercise sound, independent professional judgment in identifying and resolving complex tax reporting problems.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or a related field; or equivalent relevant experience.

Requirements

• Experience with Vertex Indirect Tax Returns (VITR) software.
• Exposure to Robotic Process Automation (RPA) tools and/or Alteryx for data processing and workflow automation.
• Completion of the IPT Business Tax Basics course or equivalent professional development in indirect tax compliance.
• Experience participating in cross-functional process improvement initiatives or special project teams.
• Equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant professional experience accepted in lieu of a formal degree.

Benefits

• US Base Salary Range: $65,400.00 - $85,100.00
• Base pay offered to new hires may vary based upon factors including relevant industry and job-related skills and experience, geographic location, and business needs.
• This role may be eligible for the Vertex Bonus Plan (VOB), a role-specific sales commission/bonus, and/or equity grants.
