Role Description
This role involves assisting Business Units (BUs) to ensure compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) and Canadian Investor Confidence rules. The Accounting Analyst Co-op will gain exposure to various areas within the U.S. business, including:

Insurance Operations (premiums, claims, and commissions processing)

Central Finance
Key responsibilities include:

Attending internal control walkthrough meetings with relevant individuals from each business unit and the external auditors.

Designing, executing, and performing detailed testing of internal controls in accordance with professional audit standards.

Evaluating internal controls, proposing enhancements, and investigating the cause of internal control weaknesses.

Performing analysis and needed remediation testing around identified control deficiencies.

Assisting the Manager, U.S. Financial Controls in tracking ICFR deliverables to the external auditors.

Other responsibilities and projects as required.
Qualifications

Pursuing a degree in Accounting or related discipline, with the intention to obtain a CPA designation.

Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio).

Strong organizational skills and commitment to meeting reporting and control deadlines.

Ability to work independently to effectively support the team.

Ability to work remotely as team members are located in both Canada and U.S.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required as this position has direct contact with numerous departments within and outside the company.

Ability and willingness to learn new software applications quickly, including Workiva for SOX testing/documentation.
