[Hiring] Student, Accounting Analyst @Sun Life

Role Description

This role involves assisting Business Units (BUs) to ensure compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) and Canadian Investor Confidence rules. The Accounting Analyst Co-op will gain exposure to various areas within the U.S. business, including:

• Insurance Operations (premiums, claims, and commissions processing)
• Central Finance

Key responsibilities include:

• Attending internal control walkthrough meetings with relevant individuals from each business unit and the external auditors.
• Designing, executing, and performing detailed testing of internal controls in accordance with professional audit standards.
• Evaluating internal controls, proposing enhancements, and investigating the cause of internal control weaknesses.
• Performing analysis and needed remediation testing around identified control deficiencies.
• Assisting the Manager, U.S. Financial Controls in tracking ICFR deliverables to the external auditors.
• Other responsibilities and projects as required.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Accounting or related discipline, with the intention to obtain a CPA designation.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio).
• Strong organizational skills and commitment to meeting reporting and control deadlines.
• Ability to work independently to effectively support the team.
• Ability to work remotely as team members are located in both Canada and U.S.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required as this position has direct contact with numerous departments within and outside the company.
• Ability and willingness to learn new software applications quickly, including Workiva for SOX testing/documentation.
