Role Description
Virginia Tax is seeking to hire multiple Tax Auditors in the Northern Virginia area to conduct audits on businesses to determine their compliance with Virginia state tax laws. The emphasis will be on Virginia Sales and Use Tax.

The Auditor, using generally accepted auditing standards, reviews taxpayer and business records and other source documents needed to determine if the taxpayer is compliant with the tax laws of Virginia.

The Auditor also develops audits and assessments, educates taxpayers, and ensures the collection and remittance of payments are the appropriate amount of tax due to the Commonwealth of Virginia.

No relocation costs are covered.

These positions are home-based, but travel is required to the taxpayer’s business location and may include occasional overnight stays. Overnight travel work expenses are covered by Virginia Tax.

The anticipated salary for this position is commensurate with experience up to $80,000.
Qualifications

Applicants must currently reside in one of the following Northern Virginia areas: Counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William.

Accounting and/or auditing experience in a professional work environment.

Ability to proficiently use a windows-based computer to create, compile, manipulate, transmit, and analyze electronic data including spreadsheets, databases, and word processing.

Must have a valid driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, and provide your own transportation. Ability to travel during the day and, occasionally, overnight.

Must have a safe and private work area/room/office at home to work including a locking file cabinet and high-speed Internet service. (Must meet Internet Speed Test - see Special Instructions to Applicants).

Experience working remotely from home or working with minimal supervision in an office environment.

Written and verbal communication skills.

Knowledge of accounting and GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
Requirements

Public sector / government accounting or auditing experience.

Advanced skills, knowledge or ability in areas of taxes, audit, accounting or other relevant fields.
