Role Description
The Sr. Underwriter is responsible for the thorough evaluation of credit and property documents in loan files, identifying potential risks, and advising on the appropriate decision regarding loan approval, decline, or suspension based on New American Funding's underwriting guidelines and investor requirements.

Maintain underwriting turn times.

Work with processors and loan officers to provide guidance on a case-by-case basis.

Keep up with guidelines set forth by VA, FHA, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and Ginnie Mae.
Qualifications

Government underwriting experience; CHUMS and/or SAR ID.

Superior knowledge of and experience with property and credit underwriting requirements of FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, and VA, as well as other loan programs and private mortgage insurance companies.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Superior analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.

Ability to work independently, analyze data, and recommend appropriate actions with minimal supervision.

Capability of working in a fast-paced environment, under pressure, and meeting time-sensitive deadlines while maintaining a high level of professionalism.

High School diploma or equivalent.

Five or more years of mortgage underwriting experience.

Current experience underwriting VA mortgage loans.

Direct Endorsement (DE) and/or LAPP/SAR certifications.
