Role Description
The Senior Premium Audit Specialist conducts complex virtual insurance policy audits with Markel policyholders to ensure accurate classification of risk and premium determination. Through advanced analysis of business operations, payroll, sales, organizational structures, and regulatory requirements, this role evaluates exposures, resolves complex audit scenarios, and prepares audit reports that support underwriting profitability and policy accuracy.
As an advanced individual contributor, the Senior Premium Audit Specialist independently handles highly complex, high-premium, and high-exposure accounts that require elevated technical expertise, sound judgment, and strong analytical skills. This role serves as a resource to peers by providing guidance on complex audit issues, supporting operational initiatives, and contributing to continuous improvement efforts across the department.
Key Responsibilities

Conduct virtual premium audits across a broad range of industries, including highly complex business operations and organizational structures.

Investigate and analyze payroll, sales, operational activities, ownership structures, and classification issues to accurately assess risk exposures and premium.

Independently manage and complete complex, high-premium, and high-exposure audits requiring advanced technical expertise and judgment.

Make determinations through research, investigation, and collaboration with business partners.

Prepare and process audit reports in accordance with department standards while maintaining a high level of accuracy, quality, and timeliness.

Review audits completed by third-party vendors to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with company standards.

Serve as a technical resource for team members by sharing knowledge, providing guidance, and supporting the resolution of complex audit issues.

Support onboarding and development efforts through peer mentoring and knowledge sharing.

Meet elevated productivity, quality, accuracy, and turnaround expectations while balancing increased audit complexity.

Ensure compliance with ISO, NCCI, WCIRB, PCRB, and other applicable regulatory and industry requirements.

Leverage technology, automation, analytics, and AI-enabled tools to improve efficiency, audit quality, and business outcomes.

Participate in process improvement initiatives, testing activities, and special projects that support operational excellence.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Advanced experience in premium auditing, insurance operations, underwriting support, accounting, finance, business analysis, or a related field.

Advanced knowledge of premium audit principles, classification methodologies, and regulatory requirements.

Pay Information
The salary range for the Sr. Premium Audit Specialist position is $20.87 - $43.49. The posted salary range reflects the lowest and highest base salary applicable to this role across our U.S. locations. Individual offers are determined based on geographic location, experience, qualifications, internal equity, and other job-related factors. This position may also be eligible to participate in the Company's annual incentive plan.
