Role Description

The Senior Financial Crime Business Banking Investigator team serves as Monzo’s frontline defence against complex economic crime, safeguarding our ecosystem and customers, from startups to established SMEs, against sophisticated fraud and money laundering. This critical operational team builds deep subject matter expertise to ensure financial integrity across the entire customer lifecycle.

• Conduct rigorous onboarding and ongoing compliance checks.
• Unravel complex financial crime typologies.
• Directly mitigate risk through thorough investigation, reporting, and account closures.

You’ll play a key role by:

• Taking ownership of the most complex FinCrime Business Banking tasks, including Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) for high-risk businesses, Complex Customer Reviews, and multi-jurisdictional money muling investigations.
• Writing, reviewing, and submitting high-quality Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) to the National Crime Agency (NCA).
• Maintaining a regular schedule on core investigative tasks to support Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
• Actively coaching Investigators on complex financial crime typologies and best practices.
• Working closely with Operations Analysts to share emerging trends and ensure operational guidance is updated.

Qualifications

• Deep KYB & AML expertise with significant experience in end-to-end business due diligence and complex investigations.
• Skilled researcher with a proven ability to leverage open-source intelligence.
• Strong grasp of UK and international financial crime trends affecting business accounts.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt to shifting priorities.
• Impact-driven with a genuine desire to protect Monzo and its customers.
• Leadership and improvement skills, ideally with experience mentoring peers.

Requirements

• 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, from 9:00am to 5:30pm.
• Work one full weekend (Saturday and Sunday) once every 4 weeks, with 2 set days in lieu provided.
• No time off during the first 6 weeks of employment due to training.
