Role Description
We are a Global SaaS business with a growing US presence, and we’re hiring the first member of our US financial control team. This is a high-trust role for someone who’s confident running the US accounting function end-to-end and who brings solutions, not just problems, to the table.
You’ll be the go-to person for everything accounting-related on the US side - from month-end close through to audit, tax, and payroll. You’ll partner closely with our existing US FP&A function and the established global finance team in the UK. The role will suit an individual who can take ownership of issues as they arise.
What you’ll own
-
Month-end close:
Run the full close process for the US & Canadian entities, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and intercompany transactions with the group. Deliver clean, timely numbers each month in line with the global close timetable.
-
Payroll:
Manage end-to-end US & Canadian payroll processing via Rippling, including new hire setup, benefits deductions, multi-state withholding, and year-end W-2 reporting.
-
Sales tax:
Own multi-state sales tax compliance via Anrok, including nexus monitoring, registrations, return review, and filings.
-
Corporate tax:
Act as the primary point of contact for our external tax preparers on federal and state corporate income tax returns, estimated payments, and any state/local filings.
-
Audit:
Lead the US side of the annual audit, preparing schedules, responding to auditor requests, and ensuring a smooth, well-organised process.
-
Revenue recognition:
Apply ASC 606 to our SaaS revenue streams, document accounting positions, and ensure consistent treatment across the business.
-
Other compliance:
Manage 1099 reporting, state annual filings, business licences, and ad-hoc regulatory matters.
-
Partnership with FP&A:
Provide timely, accurate actuals and supporting analysis to our US FP&A team to support budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting.
Our finance stack
-
ERP:
Campfire (we’re in the process of moving onto this - experience with Campfire is a strong plus, but NetSuite or a comparable modern ERP background will translate well)
-
Payroll & HRIS:
Rippling
-
Expenses & corporate cards:
Brex
-
Bill payments / AP:
Tipalti
-
Sales tax:
Anrok
Process improvement & AI
You’ll be joining an established global finance function with existing processes, systems, and ways of working but we expect every member of the team to actively look for ways to make our accounting operations leaner, faster, and more reliable, with AI as a core part of the toolkit rather than an afterthought.
-
Spotting manual, repetitive, or error-prone work in the US workflows you own and proposing how to re-engineer it using AI tools, automation, or better system integrations
-
Using AI to accelerate work like reconciliations, variance commentary, flux analysis, audit prep, technical accounting research (e.g. ASC 606 memos), and policy documentation
-
Working with the wider global finance team on improvements rather than building in isolation - changes that affect group processes need to be aligned
-
Championing tooling decisions where the case is clear - we’d rather invest in software and AI than headcount where it makes sense
Qualifications
-
8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a meaningful portion in industry (not solely public accounting)
-
SaaS industry experience is essential
-
CPA strongly preferred
-
Mix of public accounting (Big 4 or strong mid-tier) and SaaS industry experience is ideal
-
Strong working knowledge of ASC 606 revenue recognition applied to SaaS contracts
-
Hands-on experience with US multi-state sales tax compliance (Anrok experience a plus)
-
Experience leading or substantially supporting an external audit
-
Comfortable as the senior accounting person in a small/lean US environment
-
Hands-on experience with a modern SaaS finance stack - ideally Campfire, NetSuite, or a comparable ERP, plus Rippling, Brex, and Tipalti (or close equivalents)
-
Demonstrated interest in or hands-on use of AI tools to improve finance workflows
-
Strong judgement on what to escalate, when, and with what level of supporting analysis
-
Excellent written communication
Requirements
-
Experience supporting a US subsidiary of a foreign parent (or vice versa)
-
Familiarity with UK GAAP or IFRS reporting requirements for group consolidation purposes
-
Track record of implementing AI or automation in a finance/accounting setting
-
Experience with an ERP migration or finance systems implementation
