Role Description
Monarch Communities is hiring a Payroll Accounting Manager, a payroll manager/accountant role that owns our payroll function end-to-end. This role reports to the VP of Accounting and directly supervises our Payroll Specialists. Responsibilities include:

End-to-end execution of all pay cycles (community and corporate, on-cycle and off-cycle) in Workday.

Publishing and enforcing the payroll calendar, input deadlines, and audit/confirm checkpoints across the portfolio.

Supervising, developing, and balancing workload across the Payroll Specialist team; owning error resolution and root-cause fixes.

Designing and maintaining payroll process documentation, controls, and business-continuity coverage.

Building standardized intake and onboarding workflows: new hire setup, status changes, and new position requisitions.

Partnering with community and operations leadership on timesheet input standards and compliance.

Owning payroll GL configuration in Workday and mapping to Yardi Voyager; producing and validating payroll journal entries, accruals, and billbacks.

Reconciling payroll bank/clearing accounts; supporting month-end close, intercompany allocations, and audit requests.

Designing and maintaining portfolio-wide corporate and regional salary allocation methodologies.

Serving as primary relationship owner for our managed payroll services partner.

Owning multi-state payroll tax posture: registrations, SUI rates, jurisdiction setup, and agency notice resolution across six states.

Overseeing garnishments, W-2 season, and year-end processing, including unemployment claims coordination.

Building and maintaining Workday payroll reports feeding portfolio labor metrics.

Producing a monthly community payroll input scorecard for community and regional leadership.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.

5β8+ years progressive payroll and/or payroll accounting experience; multi-state and multi-entity experience required (1,000+ employee scale strongly preferred).

Demonstrated GL/accounting fluency: journal entries, account mapping, cost allocations, reconciliations, close support; Yardi exposure a plus.

Experience designing payroll processes and driving field/manager accountability for data quality.

Workday Payroll experience strongly preferred, including report writing; experience with a managed-payroll or BPO vendor relationship a significant plus.

Payroll or HRIS system implementation experience a plus.

Senior living, healthcare, or hospitality industry experience a plus.

Working knowledge of multi-state wage & hour and payroll tax compliance (NJ, NY, PA, DE, MA, CT).
