Role Description

We are looking for a motivated Accounts Assistant to join our team on a fully remote basis from South Africa, working closely alongside a senior colleague and supporting the delivery of a varied UK client portfolio. This is a hands-on, client-facing role where you will build real experience across accounts preparation, VAT, tax and client communication.

We see this as a genuine development role. Over 1 to 2 years the expectation is that you will build the technical and commercial skills needed to progress towards managing your own client portfolio. If you want a role where you can learn quickly and take on more responsibility as your confidence grows, this is a strong platform to do that.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of in-practice experience working for a UK accountancy firm.
• A working knowledge of accounts preparation, VAT or tax — you do not need to be fully proficient across all areas but should have a solid foundation in at least one.
• Strong communication skills and a professional, client-friendly manner.
• Well-organised and reliable, with good attention to detail.
• Studying towards AAT or equivalent, or recently qualified.
• Genuinely motivated to develop and take on more responsibility over time.
• Familiarity with cloud accounting software such as Xero or QuickBooks is a plus.
• A reliable home internet connection and a suitable quiet space to work remotely.

Requirements

• Handle day-to-day client queries, calls and correspondence, keeping clients updated and progressing actions promptly.
• Assist with the preparation of year-end accounts and corporation tax returns.
• Support the VAT return process: requesting VAT data from clients, tracking information, liaising with the bookkeeping team on amendments and following up with clients on review findings.
• Draft client emails, meeting notes and follow-up actions.
• Maintain client records, deadline trackers and workflow notes so nothing falls through the gaps.
• Coordinate with internal payroll and bookkeeping specialists to keep client matters progressing.
• Learn the workflow, technical skills and client management approach needed to progress to a senior accountant role.
