Role Description
The Global Tax Accountant plays a key role in supporting Ciena’s direct tax function, helping ensure compliance with U.S. federal, state, and international tax requirements while contributing to accurate and timely tax reporting. This role offers exposure to complex global operations, cross-border collaboration, and opportunities to apply technology to enhance tax processes.

Support global income tax provision processes through the preparation of tax workpapers and supporting schedules

Contribute to domestic and international income tax compliance, including coordination of filings and payments

Monitor, reconcile, and maintain tax-related general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness

Perform tax research on evolving U.S. and international tax legislation and assess impacts to the business

Partner with international accounting teams and external tax advisors to support local tax provisions and compliance

Assist with income tax audits by gathering documentation and supporting timely responses to audit inquiries

Contribute to direct tax initiatives, process improvements, and the effective use of tax technology solutions
Qualifications

4+ years of progressive experience in public accounting and/or a corporate tax role within a multinational public company

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

Working knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and international income tax regulations

Experience preparing tax workpapers, provisions, and compliance documentation

Strong analytical, organizational, and attention‑to‑detail skills

Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment

Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across global teams
Requirements

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent professional designation

Experience supporting global tax provision processes for a publicly traded company

Exposure to tax technology tools and process automation initiatives

Prior involvement in income tax audits or controversy matters

Interest in continuous improvement and learning within a global tax function
