[Hiring] Financial Leadership Partner CFO-Level Consultant @The Herring Group

Role Description

The Herring Group is seeking a Financial Leadership Partner (CFO Level Consultant) to work remotely in Texas or Georgia. This role involves:

• Holding a portfolio of SMB clients (companies with $3M–$50M in revenue) as their outsourced financial leader.
• Owning the models, forecasts, dashboards, and KPIs that leadership actually uses.
• Helping owners and management teams translate numbers into decisions every month.
• Pushing clients on pricing, labor efficiency, and identifying leaking margins.
• Improving methodology, delivery, and tools through client engagements.

Qualifications

• 10–20 years of experience in financial leadership roles such as CFO, Controller, FP&A Director, Principal Consultant, or Business Owner.
• Experience working inside SMBs, understanding owner concerns.
• Ability to build financial models and facilitate impactful conversations.
• Preference for focused work hours (30–35 hours per week) over longer, unfocused ones.
• Desire for meaningful, interesting, and challenging work with high autonomy.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics, or an MBA preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in financial leadership.
• Hands-on experience supporting small to mid-sized businesses ($3M–$100M+ in annual revenue).
• Proven ability to drive profitability improvement, margin expansion, and cash flow optimization.
• Advanced proficiency in financial modeling, dashboards, and analytics tools.
• Exceptional communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to manage multiple client engagements concurrently in a fast-paced consulting environment.
• Previous business owner or entrepreneurial experience is considered a strong plus.
• Must reside in Texas or Georgia.
