Role Description
As an H&R Block Expat Tax Advisor, you will help U.S. taxpayers living and working around the world navigate the complexities of U.S. tax compliance. Through our virtual service model, you will build trusted client relationships while providing high-quality U.S. tax preparation, tax planning, and tax-related support tailored to the unique needs of expatriate clients.
Key Responsibilities

Deliver an Exceptional Client Experience

Build trusted relationships with U.S. expat clients by providing knowledgeable, responsive, and personalized service throughout the tax preparation process.

Conduct comprehensive tax interviews to understand each client's unique tax situation and identify relevant U.S. and international tax considerations.

Clearly communicate tax information, filing requirements, next steps, and recommendations in a way that helps clients feel informed and confident.

Address client questions and concerns and appropriately escalate complex or unresolved matters when additional support is needed.

Prepare Accurate, High-Quality Tax Returns

Analyze client information and international tax matters to prepare complete and accurate U.S. federal and state income tax returns.

Apply established quality standards and internal guidelines for tax return preparation, review, escalation, and referral.

Identify situations requiring additional research or specialized expertise and leverage available resources to determine the appropriate treatment.

Collaborate with Client Relationship Professionals and other Expat team members to efficiently move client engagements through the tax preparation and filing process.

Provide clients with clear guidance for electronically filing or otherwise submitting required tax returns and related documents.

Develop International Tax Expertise

Leverage internal research resources, technical guidance, and subject-matter expertise to resolve unfamiliar or complex tax questions.

Successfully complete comprehensive paid training at the beginning of the assignment and actively participate in ongoing continuing education.

Build and maintain knowledge of U.S. expatriate taxation and relevant foreign tax and financial systems to better understand the circumstances of clients living abroad.

Stay informed on relevant tax developments, technical guidance, and professional resources recommended by leadership.

Collaborate Across the Expat Team

Partner effectively with Client Relationship Professionals, Tax Managers, and other team members to provide a seamless end-to-end client experience.

Communicate proactively regarding client needs, outstanding information, potential issues, and next steps.

Contribute to a collaborative environment focused on quality, responsiveness, accountability, and exceptional client service.

Support Client Growth and Retention

Help strengthen the H&R Block Expat Tax Services relationship with new and existing clients, including clients transitioning from acquired businesses or services.

Leverage global experience, education, cultural awareness, or country-specific knowledge to build rapport and better understand client needs.

Identify opportunities to retain and grow client relationships by delivering an exceptional experience and appropriately requesting referrals.

Support client acquisition initiatives and contribute to plans designed to expand the Expat client base.

Qualifications

Bachelorβs degree in a related field or the equivalent through a combination of education and related work experience.

Ability to communicate tax and financial advice clearly and effectively with the public in a variety of situations, including but not limited to public speaking engagements.

Circular 230 credentials (Enrolled Agent, CPA, or Attorney) or willing to obtain within one year of employment.

Excellent interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication.

2 years minimum related work experience.

Pay Range Information
The pay range for this position is $18.41 - $27.64/Hr. Local minimum wage laws apply. Individual pay decisions will depend on job-related factors such as experience, education, skill, performance, and geographic location where work will be performed.
