[Hiring] Director - Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting @Stanford Health Care

Role Description

The Director of Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting is responsible for performing a variety of duties including, but not limited to:

• Overseeing all enterprise-wide financial reporting activities.
• Serving as the organization's foremost authority on the application of U.S. GAAP to complex and evolving accounting matters.
• Ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial statements while leading the end-to-end financial data lifecycle.
• Managing accounting policies, regulatory reporting, financial close processes, and internal controls.
• Driving operational efficiency and supporting strategic decision-making through high-quality financial insights.
• Leading the assessment, documentation, and operationalization of complex accounting matters across a broad range of GAAP topics.
• Partnering closely with cross-functional leaders to maintain strong governance, optimize reporting capabilities, and support the organization's financial health and long-term objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required.
• Eight (8) or more years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience, including previous management responsibility.
• Significant experience researching and documenting complex U.S. GAAP positions, including preparation of technical accounting memoranda.
• Prior experience in a complex healthcare organization, academic medical center, or non-profit entity strongly preferred.
• Public accounting experience (Big 4 or large regional firm) preferred.

Requirements

• Deep expertise in U.S. GAAP, including non-profit accounting standards (ASC 958, ASC 954).
• Strong working knowledge of revenue recognition (ASC 606), leases (ASC 842), investments, debt, and business combinations.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and financial reporting systems; familiarity with ERP platforms (e.g., Workday).
• Knowledge of hospital information systems, including Epic.
• Experience pulling and joining large data sets and performing analysis using tools such as Tableau, Alteryx, Power BI, and Power Automate.
• CPA - Certified Public Accountant.
