Role Description

The Director, Actuarial, plays an important role in Oscar's actuarial department, leading a skilled team to manage Regional pricing across multiple states, drive strategic decisions and ensure regulatory compliance. Responsibilities include:

• Mentoring and developing Oscar's team of actuaries, including Associate Directors, Managers, and Analysts.
• Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams in Finance, P&L, Product Development, and others.
• Making critical actuarial decisions and owning financial estimates and forecasts.
• Communicating recommendations to senior executives.

You will report into the VP, Actuarial.

Work Location: This position is fully remote and open to candidates residing in the U.S., excluding Alaska; Delaware; Hawaii; Louisiana; Montana; North Dakota; Oklahoma; West Virginia; Wyoming; and U.S. Territories. Daily work is completed from your home office, with occasional travel required for team meetings and company events.

Pay Transparency: The base pay for this role in the states of California, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, and Washington is: $198,720 - $260,820 per year. The base pay for this role in all other locations is: $178,848 - $234,738 per year. You are also eligible for employee benefits, participation in Oscar's unlimited vacation program, company equity grants and annual performance bonuses.

Responsibilities include:

• Owning decision-making responsibilities related to Actuarial methodologies, model enhancements, and business initiatives.
• Overseeing the end-to-end actuarial pricing processes within a specific portfolio.
• Promoting long-term goals and objectives that guide the strategic direction of the Actuarial function.
• Understanding key financial risks and opportunities within the domain and applying learnings to guide analytical pricing and strategies.
• Mentoring, coaching, and providing regular feedback to Actuarial team members.
• Providing an Actuarial viewpoint within cross-functional discussions to drive business objectives.
• Leading and shaping Oscar Actuarial best practices with respect to automation and documentation.
• Developing strong relationships and lines of communication with both internal and external senior stakeholders.
• Ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM field, or 4 years commensurate experience.
• Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (SOA), or on the track to become one.
• 10+ years of actuarial and/or quantitative analysis experience.

Requirements

• Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
• Strong understanding of health insurance concepts and nuances.
• Prior experience leading teams of healthcare actuaries.
