Role Description

The Clinical Research Financial Analyst resides within the Brown University Health Office of Cancer Research (LOCR), under the direction of a Department Research Finance Manager. The position is recruiting a high-level performer of clinical research administration functions and activities. The position will support and mentor entry-level and mid-level colleagues with assigned activities. The Clinical Research Financial Analyst may be assigned any of the following pre-award or post-award activities for a portfolio of clinical research studies:

  • Calendar builds in OnCore (clinical trial management system)
  • Coverage Analysis
  • Budget development and negotiation
  • Sponsor invoicing
  • Sponsored account invoicing
  • Accounts receivable activities
  • Study closeout activities
  • Grant applications and management
  • Patient charge segregation

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the financial management of assigned clinical research projects, including planning, developing, monitoring, and coordinating departmental research administrative activities.
  • Collaborate with and advise faculty and researchers on preparation of sponsored research projects and financial management of sponsored and institutional funds.
  • Serve as a point person for coordination, communication, and problem resolution regarding research administrative matters.
  • Pre-Award Management:
    • Facilitate study start-up activities for new clinical trials at LOCR, including calendar and coverage analysis development, budget negotiations, and clinical trial agreement execution.
    • Identify funding opportunities and prepare applications for grants in compliance with sponsor guidelines.
    • Ensure timely and accurate completion of proposals for accuracy, presentation, and compliance.
    • Oversee grant submittal process and monitor application review process.
    • Assist with progress reports and ensure compliance with sponsor guidelines.
    • Communicate institutional and funding agenciesโ€™ regulations and policies.
    • Coordinate and provide information to faculty about funding opportunities and deadlines.
  • Post-Award Management:
    • Prepare and submit invoices to Sponsors and track receipt of payment.
    • Complete check requests for invoices received through vendors and track payments.
    • Update associated budgets and MCAs as clinical research studies undergo amendments.
    • Finalize the budget upon award and work with Office of Research for timely setup.
    • Review Notice of Award for budgetary or other restrictions/requirements.
    • Manage budget spending to guidelines and monitor allocation of research funds.
    • Compile and analyze fiscal data and disseminate accurate financial information.
    • Maintain confidential records of salary expenses and other disbursements.
    • Prepare reports and documents as requested by managers.
    • Represent department at research administration management meetings.
  • Compliance:
    • Ensure adherence to internal and external policies in collaboration with faculty and researchers.
    • Complete billing review for clinical research study participants in Epic/LifeChart.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in business administration, finance, or related area, or at least 10 years of relevant research administration experience.
  • At least three to five years of experience in a research/academic environment, including federal and non-federal funding, grant application processes, and regulations.
  • Oncology clinical research experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with diverse backgrounds such as MDs, PhDs, research, and administrative staff.
  • Thorough knowledge of microcomputers, peripheral equipment, and networks.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Windows.
  • Ability to learn specific research access programs.
