Role Description

The Budget Specialist is responsible for developing, monitoring, and analyzing program, grant, and organizational budgets. This position partners with program leadership, finance staff, and business development personnel to:

• Prepare grant budgets
• Prepare contract budgets
• Make budget modifications
• Develop funding proposals
• Generate financial reports
• Create budget narratives

The Budget Specialist will support funding opportunities by:

• Developing accurate cost projections
• Ensuring compliance with grant and contract requirements

The ideal candidate will possess experience in:

• Non-profit budgeting
• Grant financial management
• Government funding
• Program budget development

Candidates should demonstrate:

• Strong analytical skills
• Attention to detail
• The ability to communicate financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field is required
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in budgeting, financial analysis, grant budgeting, or grant management, preferably in a non-profit or human services environment
• May consider a combination of education, training, and experience
• Experience developing and managing grant and contract budgets
• Experience working with federal, state, local government, and/or foundation funder programs preferred
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
• Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Ability to analyze complex financial information and prepare clear financial reports
• Experience preparing budget narratives and responding to funding opportunities preferred
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Candidates may be asked to provide examples of budget reports, budget narratives, grant budgets, or other work products that demonstrate relevant budgeting and financial analysis experience, with confidential information redacted
