Role Description

The Senior Manager, Accounting / Assistant Controller is responsible for managing the accounting operations across APIC and its related organizations, with primary responsibility for the financial close process, general ledger integrity, account reconciliations, and the accuracy and timeliness of accounting records and financial reporting.

• Provides oversight across accounting functions, reviewing accounting activities to ensure performance is in accordance with established policies, procedures, internal controls, and applicable accounting standards.
• Serves as a senior operational and technical resource within the Accounting team, providing leadership and guidance to accounting staff.
• Resolves complex accounting matters and supports the continued development of accounting processes, systems, and internal controls.
• Partners closely with the Controller on financial reporting, audit, compliance activities, and other accounting initiatives.
• Serves as the primary accounting escalation point in the Controller's absence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; equivalent and relevant experience may be considered.
• 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, including experience with financial close, general ledger accounting, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and internal controls; nonprofit accounting experience preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience providing leadership, supervision, or functional oversight within an accounting environment.
• Strong proficiency with accounting and financial systems, including Sage Intacct or similar ERP systems, and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles and practices, including general ledger accounting, financial close, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and practices, including revenue recognition, grants, and related-entity accounting.
• Strong understanding of internal controls, accounting policies and procedures, and audit and compliance requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze complex accounting and financial information, exercise sound judgment, and independently research and resolve accounting issues.
• Ability to lead, coach, and provide technical guidance to accounting staff while effectively managing competing priorities and deadlines.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate financial information effectively to both financial and non-financial audiences.
• Effective cross-functional collaboration skills, with a high degree of professionalism, integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail.
