This role offers the opportunity to influence high-visibility decisions, drive enterprise value creation, and contribute meaningfully to Nationwide’s long-term growth ambitions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform actuarial pricing, modeling and structuring activities for corporate development opportunities.
  • Conduct transaction due diligence and risk assessment by analyzing actuarial appraisals, statutory filings, assumption documentation, policy forms, asset portfolios listing, existing reinsurance arrangements and other relevant materials.
  • Develop and maintain robust financial models and forecasts to evaluate transaction economics, profitability metrics, tax effects and capital implications.
  • Establish baseline assumptions and perform sensitivity analyses to identify key risks and provide actionable insights for decision-making.
  • Partner with internal cross-functional teams (LOB, Finance, Legal, Investment, Tax, and Risk) as well as external consultant and legal counsel throughout the deal process to ensure deal assumptions and treaty terms are accurately reflected and aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Prepare deal materials for executive committees and clearly communicate results and recommendations to senior management, supporting informed and timely strategic decision-making.

  • Assist in treaty negotiations by evaluating NGE governance language, trust and collateral requirements, investment guidelines, recapture provisions, and other key contractual terms.
  • Build proof-of-concept models for new corporate development opportunities or innovative reinsurance solutions.
  • Develop and refine analytical tools, templates, and processes to enhance transaction evaluation efficiency.
  • Participate in special projects, including initiatives related to balance sheet optimization, market intelligence, and other strategic priorities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Finance, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or related field.
  • FSA designation.
  • 6+ years of actuarial experience in the insurance or reinsurance industry.
  • Advanced knowledge of financial reporting and insurance accounting under multiple regimes, including US GAAP, US Statutory, US Tax, and Bermuda EBS.
  • Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail while maintaining a big-picture perspective.
  • Self-starter with intellectual curiosity; ability to navigate ambiguity and seek solutions without perfect information under some guidance.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, making informed recommendations under pressure.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, capable of conveying complex actuarial concepts to diverse stakeholders.
  • Advanced technical skills in Excel/VBA and database applications.
  • Experience and knowledge with asset features, asset modeling (AXIS or MG-ALFA) and ALM techniques is highly preferred.
  • M&A transactions and corporate development experience is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of universal life products (UL, ULSG, IUL, VUL), including product features, pricing, financial reporting (Statutory & GAAP), and source of earnings analysis is highly preferred.

Benefits

  • Medical/dental/vision.
  • Life insurance, short and long term disability coverage.
