Role Description
The Accounting Clerk III provides essential financial, accounting, and administrative support to the CBP Office of Finance. This role is responsible for a wide range of tasks across payroll, financial reporting, travel, commercial accounts, government card programs, revenue collections, and customer service. The Accounting Clerk III ensures accuracy, compliance, and timely processing of financial transactions in support of CBPβs mission.
Qualifications

Must be a U.S. citizen.

High school diploma or GED and at least two years of post-high school education in business, management, finance, or accounting or related field OR completion of a four-year program at an accredited college or university in any field.

Proficiency with Microsoft Teams, Word, Outlook, Access and use of multiple monitors.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial processing.

Excellent customer service and communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.

Must be able to successfully complete the required U.S. Government background investigation and security clearance process.
Requirements

Proficiency with computers and ability to navigate/enter information into established databases and Microsoft Office products.

Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

Ability to communicate effectively in writing and in person as appropriate for the needs of the audience.

Ability to address all customer inquiries with a pleasant and patient demeanor.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Ability to compute rates, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret information.

Ability to collect data, define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions dealing with several abstract and concrete variables.

When on site, work is performed in an office cubicle environment with low noise level.

Employee will have consistent and direct visual contact with multiple computer monitors.

Accounting Clerk III positions are subject to the Service Contract Act.

Must comply with all CBP security, training, and onboarding requirements.

Professional demeanor and adherence to CBPβs standards of conduct.

May be required to work overtime during peak periods and perform mission-essential functions during government furloughs or shutdowns.

This position may be fully remote. Employees must reside within a 50-mile radius of the designated CBP office and must be able to report onsite when required to support business or contract requirements.
