Role Description

As a member of IMS’ internal tax department, the Tax Associate will work with the tax and cross-functional teams to support various tax functions. This position involves assisting with tax compliance, financial reporting, and tax research related to our business operations. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of tax principles and an interest in direct and indirect taxation, compliance, and multi-state tax matters. The Tax Associate position offers the opportunity to gain exposure to compliance, audits, research, and process improvement initiatives.

Assist in preparing information for federal, state, and local tax filings, both direct and indirect
Annual 1099 preparation and distribution
Support tax compliance efforts related to multi-state operations
Document and maintain standard operating procedures for tax-related activities
Assist in preparing tax provisions and financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and Tax Accounting
Work with external tax consultants and auditors to ensure compliance and resolve tax issues
Help prepare and organize tax work papers and documentation for audits and tax planning
Facilitate sales tax, use tax, and other business tax filings and state registrations
Analyze tax data and ensure accuracy in internal tax records
Stay updated on tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements that impact the business and assist with implementing changes
Collaborate with internal finance, legal, and accounting teams on tax-related matters
Assist with M&A due diligence from a tax perspective
Additional projects as necessary

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
3+ years of tax compliance experience in a working environment
Exposure to multiple business tax types preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office Suite tools, as well as accounting software (Intacct is a plus)
Strong understanding of sales and gross receipts tax regulations, nexus, and experience with tax software (e.g., Avalara, 1099 hosting services such as Track1099)
Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving skills with attention-to-detail
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines while working independently
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
CPA or working towards CPA eligibility is a plus
Familiarity with the litigation support industry is a plus
Experience with Business Insurance is a plus

Requirements

This position is 100% remote and supports east to west coast time zones
