Role Description
As General Counsel, you will be a high-judgment legal leader, supporting Polygon Labs rapidly expanding global business. Reporting directly to the Chief Legal Officer, you will oversee a team of attorneys and lead critical legal initiatives spanning regulatory, strategic, and operational domains. This role requires deep expertise in navigating complex legal frameworks, particularly those relevant to web3, blockchain, and emerging technologies. You will shape and implement regulatory and policy strategies, manage high-priority and sensitive matters, and act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership. Your Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of attorneys working on strategic, high-impact projects across Polygon Labs
- Provide legal counsel on regulatory matters, policy development, and sensitive corporate issues
- Synthesize complex legal, technical, and business inputs to provide actionable guidance to executive leadership
- Proactively identify legal and regulatory risks, and develop strategies to mitigate them in coordination with internal and external stakeholders
- Support the negotiation and execution of strategic transactions and collaborations across the ecosystem
- Stay current on legal and regulatory developments relevant to blockchain, including data privacy, intellectual property, digital assets, financial regulation, and the web3 industry
- Collaborate with external counsel to ensure high-quality legal outcomes aligned with business objectives
Qualifications
- J.D. degree from an accredited law school and admission to at least one U.S. state bar
- 8+ years of legal experience in a reputable law firm, in-house legal department
- Demonstrated experience leading regulatory and policy-related legal work, particularly in blockchain, digital assets, or emerging technologies
- Familiarity with financial regulatory regimes, including those involving the SEC, CFTC, and FINRA
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly advise executive and technical audiences
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment
- Collaborative and solutions-oriented mindset, with excellent judgment and a high degree of professional integrity
- A strategic thinker and self-starter who thrives in ambiguity and takes ownership of outcomes
