Role Description

This role involves serving as a Blended Finance Investment Expert for an impact investor focused on energy access in the global south.

Facilitate one or more interactive workshops/discussion sessions with key internal fund stakeholders to explore the integration of concessional capital into the fund structure.
Write an in-depth report with key findings and recommendations including:
- Best practices from similar funds, potential and recommended structuring models and pros and cons of each potential structuring model.
- Optimal blending strategies, suggested capital stack structures and their implications.
- Impact and additionality analysis including expected benefits for concessional investors, value proposition for regular investors and risk-return trade-offs for both.
- Implementation roadmap including legal and regulatory considerations, timeline, and resource requirements.
- External presentation tailored for concessional capital investors.
Design the detailed project scope for Phase 2 based on fund team decisions and investor engagement outcomes.

Qualifications

Strong background in structuring investment funds, particularly those incorporating blended finance models.
Experience working with concessional capital providers.
Ability to design capital stacks that balance risk and return between regular and concessional investors.
Proven experience engaging with both commercial and impact-driven investors and understanding their incentives and concerns.
Familiar with legal and regulatory frameworks governing concessional capital in investment funds.
Deep global south expertise, particularly in structuring transactions across emerging markets, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Experience working for or with Green Climate Fund (GCF) applications or similar concessional capital providers is a strong plus.

Requirements

Financial modelling, capital structuring, concessional capital mechanisms, legal & regulatory knowledge, risk allocation.
Ability to synthesize complex financial concepts into clear presentations for different audiences, including potential concessional investors.
Experience leading strategy sessions, facilitating workshops, and guiding decision-making processes with investment teams.

Working arrangement

Location: Remote, CET friendly (Europe, Africa).
Language: Fluent English.
Travel requirements: Project is remote; could potentially have meetings in London in Phase 1 and more globally in Phase 2.
Required start date: ASAP.
Contracting period: Phase 1: ~3 weeks, Phase 2: ~3-6 months.
