Role Description
We’re looking for an Assistant Controller to join our finance team and play a key role in both managing our accounting team and driving in-depth accounting analysis for our loans business. The ideal candidate brings a technical accounting background and a sharp analytical mindset, leveraging AI tools to improve and streamline processes. This role requires someone who can balance day-to-day team oversight with hands-on work in complex accounting areas, particularly around the loan portfolio and financial reporting.
The base salary for this role is: $95,000-$125,000
Location - Vancouver or PST/MST time zone (Remote)
- Manage an accounting team, ensuring a timely and accurate execution of core functions
- Own and enhance month-end close processes and internal controls, including identifying opportunities to integrate AI-powered tools for automation
- Perform deep-dive accounting analysis of complex transactions with a specific focus on our loan business
- Support audit preparation and work with external auditors as needed
- Streamline and consolidate accounting processes across multiple businesses
- Work closely with the Controller on key projects
- Assist with monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting as necessary
- Provide support to the Treasury function
- Provide regular variance analysis on key financial information
Qualifications
- CPA with minimum 5 years progressive work experience is mandatory
- Previous experience in a public company and IFRS reporting is preferred. Financial services industry experience is definitely an asset
- Financial reporting experience
- Advanced experience using MS Excel; working knowledge of Netsuite
- Successful experience with process improvement/redesign and change management
- Quick learner and adaptable to a dynamic environment
- Strong interest in AI to improve accounting and financial reporting functions
- Exceptional analytical skills and the ability to understand complex issues
- Self-starter with a high level of ownership and accountability
- Strong technical ability
- Able to perform detailed variance analysis
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
