Role Description

As a Water Adoptions Engineer, you will be responsible for liaising with developers, contractors and groundworkers to ensure that adoptable water infrastructure is installed, tested and commissioned to the required standards.

You will spend significant time out in the field, visiting development sites to inspect and survey water mains, service connections, valves, hydrants and associated assets as they are installed.

You will be responsible for ensuring that water infrastructure is constructed in accordance with approved designs and company standards, identifying any defects or non-compliant works and ensuring appropriate remedial actions are undertaken.

In this role, you will also:

  • Be responsible for producing inspection reports, witnessing testing and commissioning activities, carrying out meter inspections and readings where required, and supporting the successful adoption of new water assets by Advanced Water Infrastructure Networks (AWIN).
  • Provide support to the Head of Technical Account Management on all regional water adoption enquiries.
  • Carry out site inspections throughout the construction process to ensure water mains, service connections, valves, hydrants, meters and associated infrastructure are installed in accordance with approved designs, the Water Industry Code for Adoption, Water Industry Act requirements and AWIN standards.
  • Ensure all activities and assets are compliant with relevant legislation, industry standards and company requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership and assurance during the testing, commissioning and performance validation of newly constructed water assets.
  • Lead the handover of new water assets, ensuring all relevant records, agreements, commissioning certificates and as-built information are in place prior to adoption.
  • Attend pre-start meetings with developers and contractors before the commencement of water infrastructure installation to ensure alignment with AWIN requirements.
  • Carry out pre-adoption inspections, produce snagging lists and complete final inspections prior to asset adoption.
  • Witness pressure testing, chlorination, sampling and commissioning activities on new water mains, ensuring all required standards are achieved before assets are adopted.
  • Inspect, maintain and record water meter installations, undertake meter readings where required, and ensure meters are correctly installed and operational.
  • Assist with the integration of newly adopted water assets into the company GIS and asset management systems.

Qualifications

  • Experience of working within the water industry, with a good understanding of the water network adoption process and the requirements for adoptable water infrastructure.
  • Experience of inspecting newly constructed water assets, including water mains, service connections, valves, hydrants and meters, with the ability to identify defects, non-compliant installations and remedial works required.
  • Good understanding of potable water distribution networks and water infrastructure construction standards.
  • Experience of reading engineering drawings, specifications and as-built records.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, industry standards and codes relating to water infrastructure and asset adoption.
  • Ability to produce clear technical inspection reports, snagging lists and recommendations.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to build effective working relationships with developers, contractors and internal teams.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and experience of GIS or asset management systems would be advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise workload and manage multiple sites across the region.
  • Full UK driving licence.
