Role Description

Brown and Caldwell (BC) has an exciting opportunity to join our team as the Wastewater Area Practice Leader (APL) for the Central Area (Colorado, Utah and Texas). BC is a pioneer and recognized industry leader in wastewater treatment.

This pivotal position will have the opportunity to build on this legacy and shape the strategy of the wastewater practice for Colorado, Utah and Texas. Specifically, you will help set priorities for business development, hiring and recruitment, and innovation/research.

The Wastewater APL leads complex environmental engineering work involving:

  • Planning, analysis, and design of solutions that support environmental protection, water sustainability, and public health outcomes.
  • Delivering high quality engineering analyses, designs, and recommendations with significant project impact.
  • Driving the growth of the wastewater practice and advancing strategic priorities in the Central Area.
  • Understanding unique trends in the area to create differentiation from competitors.
  • Connecting strategy and execution, working closely with various leaders and managers.

The APL role is designed to be shared with other responsibilities such as Project Manager, Client Service Manager, or Design Manager based on your specific expertise and relationships. A remote work-from-home arrangement is allowed but the candidate must be located in Colorado, Utah or Texas; relocation assistance is available.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute complex technical analyses and engineering design efforts.
  • Prepare, review, and approve advanced technical reports and engineering deliverables.
  • Develop and design environmental protection systems and infrastructure for complex projects.
  • Lead development of facility, watershed, or strategic resource management plans.
  • Ensure technical quality, regulatory compliance, and integration of multidisciplinary inputs.
  • Provide technical leadership during permitting, regulatory coordination, and vendor engagement.
  • Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs.

Mentorship

  • Provide mentorship, guidance, support, and knowledge-sharing to help less experienced team members develop their skills and grow within their roles.

Skills and Competencies

  • Advanced expertise in environmental engineering principles, practices, and regulations.
  • Ability to solve complex, ambiguous technical problems.
  • Strong judgment in applying engineering standards and best practices.
  • Effective leadership and communication skills within technical teams.

Experience

  • Typically, a minimum of 10 years of related work experience in Environmental Engineering or related field.
  • Typically will become certified in BC's Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) Framework and progress through the SMS competencies.

Preferred Experience

  • 15+ years of work experience in wastewater engineering with at least 8 years of project leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated sales leadership (approximately $500k - $1M per year) for wastewater projects.
  • Demonstrated strategy leadership for sales and/or operations to support business growth and focus.
  • Ability to motivate others and lead teams to implement plans for projects and client pursuits.

Education

  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or related field is required.

Preferred Education

  • A master's degree in related engineering field with a focus on wastewater.

Preferred Registrations and Memberships

  • PE (Professional Engineer) license in Colorado, Utah and/or Texas.

Salary Range

  • Location A: $117,000 - $159,000
  • Location B: $128,000 - $175,000
  • Location C: $140,000 - $191,000
