[Hiring] Technical Engineering Manager @Hanzo

Role Description

The Technical Engineering Manager, Chronicle is responsible for the people, delivery, and technical direction of the chronicle engineering team at Hanzo. This is a hands-on management role for a technical leader who can create clarity, develop engineers, manage performance, and help the team deliver secure and reliable enterprise software.

The Technical Engineering Manager will work closely with Product, Technical Delivery and Support, Security, and company leadership to translate business and customer needs into realistic engineering priorities and outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Serve as both the people manager and technical leader for the Chronicle engineering team.
• Translate company and product priorities into clear team goals.
• Establish effective ways of working and remain close to the technology.
• Work closely with Product to obtain roadmap priorities.
• Review designs and code, support complex technical work, and manage production incidents.
• Coach and develop team members through individual growth goals and practical support.
• Monitor workload, engagement, wellbeing, and team dynamics.
• Create an inclusive and respectful environment for engineers.
• Lead effectively across different countries, cultures, and time zones in a remote environment.

Qualifications

• Experience leading software engineers, coaching, feedback, and performance management.
• Strong technical credibility gained through hands-on software engineering experience.
• Experience delivering enterprise software or complex SaaS products.
• Strong experience with Python, or deep experience with Java or C# combined.
• Experience with distributed systems, large data volumes, concurrency, scaling, APIs, and complex technical problems.
• Experience with AWS or Google Cloud Platform.
• Experience with Agile or Kanban delivery, continuous deployment, and modern deployment tools.
• Sound judgment, self-awareness, and a consistent approach to accountability and employee support.
• Ability to balance people leadership, technical leadership, client needs, and delivery expectations.

Helpful Experience

• Experience with NoSQL technologies such as Cassandra or CouchDB.
• Experience with Elasticsearch, OpenSearch or other search technologies.
• Experience with React or a similar frontend framework.
• Experience supporting security, compliance, or data-governance products.
• Experience leading teams through technical modernization, operational improvement, or scaling challenges.
• Experience working with legal technology, enterprise data, or digital preservation systems.
