Role Description

Power your future with Qualus as a Senior Electrical Engineer. In this role, you will own electrical design deliverables from scoping through issued-for-construction (IFC) packages, ensuring work is completed to company standards, applicable codes, and client requirements. Success in the first 6–12 months looks like:

• Independently executing medium- and low-voltage power system and protection & control (P&C) design tasks.
• Completing required power system studies (arc flash, short circuit, load flow, grounding, and lightning protection).
• Delivering clear, constructible drawing and study packages on schedule.
• Providing sales-support engineering as needed—participating in site walks, helping define scope, and contributing technical input for proposals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (or closely related) from an ABET-accredited institution.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• 5+ years of design engineering experience on primary power distribution, P&C schemes, and/or electrical equipment.
• Experience developing relay protective setpoints and settings files.
• Working knowledge of NEC/NFPA 70, ANSI C57, ANSI C37, and NESC, and other applicable codes and standards in the design of substations and industrial power distribution.
• 2+ years of AutoCAD experience.
• 3+ years using power system modeling software (e.g., ETAP, SKM, and/or EasyPower).
• Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively discuss technical recommendations with customers.
• Ability to work independently, accurately, and with a high attention to detail.

Requirements

• Perform medium- and low-voltage electrical design for outdoor substations, unit substations, power transformers, protection and control schemes, power monitoring, and breaker/relay replacements on brownfield and greenfield EPC projects.
• Specification development for medium and low voltage electrical equipment.
• Work with CAD staff to develop and/or update client electrical drawings including one lines, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
• Review field data and perform coordination, short circuit, and arc flash studies.
• Review power monitoring data to provide customer recommendations.
• Act as a representative of Qualus to support sales in customer site walks.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams and other locations to develop optimal solutions and ensure work is properly aligned and executed.
• Remain current on all safety and technical training.
• Adhere to all company, industry and client safety protocols and standards.
• Assess project specific resource needs and coordinate assignments with project manager.
• Communicate core technical job requirements.
• Support immediate supervisor on planning and organizing workload to ensure the most effective return on assets.
• Coordinate proper project hand-off between sales and operations/engineering.
• Participate in project kickoff meetings to discuss work scope, project specifications, budgets, schedules, and safety requirements with project team.
• Ensure timely, accurate invoicing by submitting required documentation (e.g., weekly timekeeping, change order documentation, test reports, and other deliverable-related paperwork) on time.
• Consult and coordinate as necessary to utilize suppliers with the capabilities to meet material and equipment needs.
• Up to 30% travel may be required for training and visiting customer job sites.
