Role Description

As a Senior Electrical Engineer in the Oil & Gas group, you will be responsible for performing engineering design and analysis under the responsible charge of a Professional Engineer in a manner that provides the client with a quality deliverable that is on time and within budget.

Salary Range: $125,000 - $175,000 / year

This opportunity is only available to candidates located within the Odessa/Midland, TX area. Candidates can work remotely from this geographical location.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed design of all aspects of electrical power systems to include one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, control and relaying schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, grounding design, general arrangement, selection of equipment, writing of equipment specifications, project and construction cost estimates, and project scheduling as they relate to Substations and other power projects.
  • Prepare computer-based models and perform power system studies on utility and industrial/commercial electrical power transmission and distribution systems, including short circuit, load flow, relay coordination, arc flash, motor starting, power factor, harmonic analysis and other related studies. Employee should create a simple hand check to quantify the computer aided results.
  • Develop protective relay settings. Set, test, wire, and install relaying and control systems.
  • Prepare a variety of documents and reports associated with projects including cost estimates, budget reports, proposals, and studies.
  • Assist with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) as well as other commissioning activities.
  • Provide occasional field assistance and troubleshooting.
  • Check the work of designers, drafters, and field service personnel for general quality and accuracy as required.
  • Assist with client contacts and communication pertaining to specific assignments and meetings in-person and remotely.
  • Support business development via Seller-Doer, assist with marketing tasks, and prepare proposals as needed.
  • Assist with establishing and managing engineering budget and scope expectations.
  • Prepare technical write-up for applicable change orders.
  • Review submittals for conformance with client specifications and design.
  • Attend safety training and follow safety rules and guidelines.
  • Work additional time beyond 40 hours/week to complete projects, proposals and/or administrative functions, as required.
  • Maintain strong and responsive Company-Client relationships, particularly for communication pertaining to specific assignments and meeting topics.
  • Attend conferences, training workshops, seminars, regular undergraduate, and graduate classes as appropriate for advancement and as required to maintain quality of work.
  • Maintain high ethical and professional standards while showing strong judgement.
  • Maintain professional understanding of all applicable Codes and Standards, and construction practices.
  • Review and verify the work of engineers, designers, drafters, and field service personnel for general quality and accuracy.
  • Provide field assistance, troubleshooting, and observation reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution, electric power option preferred.
  • Experience: 7+ years of relevant engineering or field experience.
  • Licensure: FE is required; PE preferred.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with medium and low voltage distribution.
  • Base knowledge of Protection & Control Schemes.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with substation electrical design.
  • Proficiency with power system studies software such as PSSE, PSCAD, ETAP, SKM.
  • Previous experience coordinating and managing projects with key clients, customers, contractors and others.
  • Familiarity with the Oil & Gas market sector.
  • Possesses effective written and oral communications skills.
  • Good interpersonal and people skills.
  • Self-starter with strong initiative.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Working Conditions

  • Work Environment: Work is performed in an office setting and some field work is also required.
  • Travel: Typical: 15 – 25%.
  • Physical Activities: Must be able to lift 25lbs.
  • Team Member is responsible for managing their own work schedule with input from their supervisor and completing assigned tasks.
  • Team Member should identify discrepancies in assigned work and bring to attention of supervisor or engineer responsible for the project in a timely manner.
  • Team Member’s work product should be self-checked in a manner that is suitable for review by the supervisor or engineer responsible for the project.
