You'll have the independence to make technical decisions, opportunities to guide developing engineers, and room to continue growing your expertise and project leadership skills.

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Take Ownership of Process Design
    • Lead project-level process engineering design efforts for pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and other specialized manufacturing facilities.
    • Develop process calculations, equipment sizing, material and energy balances, and engineering solutions using principles of fluid mechanics and heat transfer.
    • Prepare and review process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), equipment specifications, and technical documentation.
    • Develop construction documents, drawings, reports, and specifications using engineering design tools such as AutoCAD, Plant 3D, and Revit.
    • Evaluate process equipment, piping systems, utilities, and control requirements to support safe, efficient, and reliable operations.
    • Review technical calculations, designs, construction submittals, shop drawings, and requests for information (RFIs).
    • Conduct facility evaluations, engineering studies, and process assessments to identify challenges and recommend improvements.
    • Apply applicable codes, permitting requirements, and industry standards, including GMP, FDA, and ISPE guidelines, throughout the design process.
  • Collaborate to Deliver Complex Projects
    • Work closely with mechanical, electrical, automation, architectural, and other engineering disciplines to develop coordinated process solutions.
    • Lead process discipline coordination, helping teams resolve technical challenges and maintain design quality.
    • Support project planning through scope development, fee calculations, technical documentation, and coordination of engineering deliverables.
    • Manage assigned design responsibilities, schedules, and priorities to support successful project delivery.
    • Communicate technical recommendations clearly to project teams, clients, equipment vendors, and contractors.
    • Provide engineering support during construction, commissioning, qualification, and validation (CQV) activities.
    • Build trusted client relationships by understanding operational needs and developing practical, technically sound solutions.
  • Guide and Develop Other Engineers
    • Provide technical direction to junior engineers, designers, and technicians throughout the design process.
    • Review engineering calculations, drawings, and technical documents, offering constructive feedback and helping maintain high-quality deliverables.
    • Share your technical knowledge and help developing engineers strengthen their design skills, engineering judgment, and problem-solving abilities.
    • Encourage collaboration, accountability, and open communication across project teams.
    • Help build a culture rooted in GBA's core values of teamwork, integrity, honesty, learning, service, and innovation.
  • Keep Learning and Improving
    • Continue building expertise in process design, manufacturing technologies, and regulated Life Sciences environments.
    • Stay current with evolving industry standards, engineering tools, and process technologies.
    • Identify opportunities to improve engineering workflows, design quality, and project coordination.
    • Explore new tools, technologies, and responsible uses of AI to support innovation and technical problem-solving.
    • Contribute ideas and lessons learned that help strengthen team effectiveness and engineering practices.
    • Continue developing your technical expertise, project management capabilities, and leadership skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of relevant process engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Experience with process design, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, material balances, and equipment sizing.
  • Understanding of process control, equipment operation, and applicable regulatory requirements, including GMP, FDA, and ISPE guidelines.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing process engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Proficiency with engineering design software such as AutoCAD, Plant 3D, or Revit.
  • Experience with process engineering analysis tools for fluid flow, equipment sizing, capacity modeling, or process simulation.
  • Ability to independently evaluate technical challenges and develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Experience coordinating process design with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong technical communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and support project schedules and deliverables.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam.

Requirements

  • Process engineering experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with specialized engineering software such as AFT Fathom, AFT Arrow, FlexSim, SchedulePro, or PHA Pro.
  • Experience participating in process safety assessments, including HAZOP reviews.
  • Experience supporting construction, commissioning, qualification, and validation (CQV) activities.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers or providing technical direction to designers and technicians.

Benefits
