Role Description

Responsible for the technical accuracy and quality of all project deliverables, engineering standards, technical procedures, and engineering methodologies. This role serves as the P&C division’s technical authority, providing final technical review and approval of deliverables, establishing engineering standards and best practices, mentoring and training engineers, and driving continuous improvement across all P&C service offerings.

  • Provide technical leadership and direction for P&C work scopes including power systems, protection and control applications, system integration, and related engineering services.
  • Provide technical supervision and oversight of project engineers throughout all phases of project execution by reviewing and approving project deliverables to ensure technical accuracy, consistency, and compliance with P&C division standards.
  • Develop, maintain, and approve all P&C division engineering standards, technical procedures, calculation methods, templates, and best practices guidelines.
  • Serve as the final authority on technical decisions, engineering practices, methodologies, and interpretation of applicable industry standards.
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance to engineers and technical personnel through mentoring, coaching, and technical review activities.
  • Develop and deliver technical training programs, workshops, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain engineering review processes and continuous improvement initiatives to improve the quality and consistency of deliverables.
  • Develop, validate, and maintain engineering tools, calculation templates, and technical resources used throughout the organization.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to project teams on complex engineering, testing, commissioning, and system integration challenges.
  • Evaluate new technologies, industry trends, and engineering practices and provide recommendations to improve the capabilities, consistency, and technical quality of the P&C service offerings.
  • Support engineering team when available with project execution.
  • Support field activities as needed.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as required, including the upkeep of vehicles, testing equipment, and administrative tools to ensure their optimal functioning and effectiveness.
  • May be modified from time to time. Other duties, tasks and work may be assigned.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience performing technical reviews and quality oversight of power systems engineering, testing, commissioning, or system integration projects.
  • Experience developing and implementing engineering review processes, technical standards, and best practices.
  • 10+ years of system integration, protection and control, NERC compliance or related power systems engineering experience preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with the installation, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of protective relaying schemes and communications systems is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, single-line, three-line drawings, wiring diagrams, and other related electrical drawings is required.
  • Working knowledge of low-, medium-, and high-voltage power systems is required.
  • Familiarity with field testing practices and electrical test equipment for power systems including megger, hi-pot, WRM, TTR, power factor test set, high current breaker test sets, relay test sets, etc.
  • Proficient in LOTO and Job Hazard Analysis practices.
  • Knowledge of NETA ATS/MTS, NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, and other applicable industry standards related to electrical power systems applications and protection.

  • Ability to independently review engineering deliverables for technical accuracy, completeness, consistency, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and maintain engineering standards, technical procedures, calculation methodologies, and best practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve complex technical issues and provide practical guidance to project teams.
  • Ability to mentor, coach, and develop engineers and technical personnel through technical review, training, and knowledge-sharing activities.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple technical reviews, engineering initiatives, deadlines, and competing priorities simultaneously.
  • Disciplined, self-motivated and proactive.
  • Ability to work well and multi-task in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Able to maintain confidential information.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint, AutoCAD and MathCAD.
  • Proficiency in SEL, GE, Siemens, ABB, etc. relays and communications.

Education & Experience

  • High school or equivalent GED certification is required.
  • Post-secondary technical education or equivalent experience in electrical power systems, protection and control, system integration, field service, or related disciplines required.
  • BSEE is preferred but not required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • NETA Level IV Certification or Professional Engineer (PE) registration is preferred.
  • Industry certifications or training related to protection and control systems, system integration, SCADA, and relay systems are also valued.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit at a desk for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in environments indoor and outdoor in all weather conditions.
  • Climb on ladders and scaffolding and work on man-lifts occasionally.
  • Lifting requirements include occasional lifting up to 75 pounds, frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds and continuous lifting of up to 25 pounds.
  • Frequent reaching/working overhead, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling.
  • Frequent walking.
  • Continuous standing and repetitive hand motion.

Travel

  • Up to 20%.

Work Schedule

  • Typical hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm.
  • Hours will be dictated by the customer and when working in the field may be earlier or later than typical, including occasional weekends and holidays.
  • The employee is expected to be online and working during normal business hours unless field work is scheduled.
