Role Description

VDOT's Information Technology Division seeks a Network Architect to join the Enterprise Architecture team. This role focuses on strategic planning, network design, and implementing a long-term vision to ensure alignment with VDOT's objectives. The Network Architect will configure network systems to enable secure, efficient user access to applications and data while adhering to security standards.

• Design comprehensive network architectures integrating LANs, WANs, wireless networks, and VPNs to meet organizational requirements.
• Document all aspects of the network implementation process.
• Monitor network performance and address latency and security concerns.
• Conduct regular network upgrades for efficiency improvements.
• Develop and document standards for network design patterns.
• Analyze network traffic and performance to plan future upgrades.
• Collaborate with IT staff, third-party vendors, and software providers to meet network requirements.
• Research, evaluate, and recommend new networking technologies and solutions.
• Define operations for multisite network environments and software applications.
• Train, mentor, and guide team members in network design practices.
• Manage complex projects across multiple architecture domains.
• Align network architecture strategy with business goals and advocate for technology strategies.

Qualifications

• Expertise in network equipment and software system design and architecture – 7 years.
• Experience prioritizing security and compliance, including security protocols and firewalls – 7 years.
• Familiarity with security frameworks, cloud networking, virtualization technologies, and IoT infrastructure – 7 years.
• Skilled in using documentation tools and creating network design documents and presentations, specifically with Visio – 7 years.
• Experience in designing, building, and maintaining complex, multi-tier networks – 5 years.
• Proficiency in network design and architecture planning, including simulation and modeling – 5 years.
• Conduct site assessments, identify network issues, and develop hierarchical network designs – 5 years.
• Designed and implemented global Azure cloud solutions, including migrating key servers to cloud-based services – 5 years.
