[Hiring] Mechanical Design Engineer @PM Group

Role Description

PM Group's Outsourced Technical Services (OTS) department are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Project Delivery Team, supporting the design and execution of large-scale data centre projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering mechanical designs from concept through detailed design, construction support, commissioning, and project closeout.

This position requires a strong understanding of mission-critical facilities and data centre infrastructure, along with the ability to collaborate within multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver high-quality, technically robust solutions on complex projects.

• Develop mechanical engineering designs for data centre and mission-critical facilities.
• Design and coordinate HVAC systems including cooling strategies for white space, plantrooms, and support areas.
• Produce calculations, equipment sizing, system layouts, specifications, schedules, and technical reports.
• Support the design of chilled water systems, condenser water systems, CRAH/CRAC units, cooling towers, pumps, and associated mechanical infrastructure.
• Participate in mechanical design reviews to ensure compliance with project requirements, industry standards, and best practices.
• Coordinate with electrical, architectural, structural, and commissioning teams throughout project delivery.
• Conduct technical evaluations of vendor equipment and review supplier submittals.
• Support value engineering initiatives while maintaining reliability, energy efficiency, and maintainability objectives.
• Assist with the preparation of tender documentation and technical bid evaluations.
• Provide engineering support during construction, factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), commissioning, and handover phases.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, client requirements, and sustainability objectives.
• Attend project meetings and present technical solutions to project stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in mechanical building services or mission-critical facility design.
• Demonstrated experience delivering mechanical designs for data centre projects.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and chilled water cooling infrastructure.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering project teams.
• Proficiency with industry-standard design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM coordination platforms.
• Strong understanding of engineering standards, codes, and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple project priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

• Chartered Engineer status or progression towards chartership.
• Experience with hyperscale or colocation data centre environments.
• Knowledge of sustainability, decarbonisation, and energy-efficient cooling technologies.
• Familiarity with CFD modelling, energy modelling, and thermal analysis tools.
• Experience supporting commissioning and integrated systems testing activities.
