[Hiring] Engineering Manager @RoomPriceGenie

Role Description

As an Engineering Manager for the Algorithms team (Revenue Management Engine) at RoomPriceGenie, you will build and lead the team behind the core of our product: the pricing and forecasting engine that automatically prices rooms for thousands of hotels. This is the algorithmic and data heart of RoomPriceGenie, spanning the pricing algorithm, the forecasting models, and the data pipelines that feed them.

This is a leadership role. Your focus is the team: delivery, people, and the connection to product goals. You stay technically credible and close to the work through design and code review, and you get hands-on when the team needs it, but you are not coding day to day. You balance delivery speed with long-term technical health and build an environment of trust and accountability. The role also reaches beyond your own team: we want you leading the way on technical improvements at the Product and Engineering department level, things like engineering processes and operational excellence, as a hands-on driver.

You will work closely with a Product Manager and report to the Senior Engineering Manager. A core part of the job is turning a complex, data-heavy domain into reliable, measurable outcomes: shipping model and pipeline improvements, proving their impact through backtesting and clear quality metrics, and keeping pricing runs dependable at scale. We expect you to be a genuine partner to Product, able to challenge and shape what gets built, not only how.

Who you'll lead

• You will lead a team of 4 engineers (3 Senior and 1 Staff).
• The role may also grow to include an Associate Engineering Manager over time.

Your Responsibilities

• Build and lead a high-performing team across the pricing algorithm, forecasting, and data pipelines, owning delivery, quality, and the operational health of pricing runs.
• Grow your people through regular 1:1s, feedback, performance reviews, and career development.
• Hire, onboard, and develop engineers to keep the team balanced and strong.
• Partner closely with Product and challenge them: push back on direction, bring your own point of view, and drive changes to what the team builds, not just how it builds.
• Translate business goals into clear engineering plans with measurable outcomes and realistic timelines. Use data (backtesting, model quality, before and after signals) to guide prioritization.
• Balance delivery velocity with technical sustainability, addressing debt, scalability, and reliability as part of delivery rather than after it.
• Provide technical oversight through design and code review, staying close enough to guide architecture and quality and to get hands-on when the team genuinely needs it.
• Act as a buffer between the team and external pressure, keeping focus and healthy team dynamics.
• Improve engineering processes and practices to increase clarity, alignment, and predictable delivery.
• Lead technical improvements beyond your own team, at the Product and Engineering department level, for example engineering processes and operational excellence. We want you hands-on and driving these, not only sponsoring them.

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering background with a track record of building and operating production systems, ideally with depth in backend and data-intensive or algorithmic domains.
• At least 5 years of experience, with several years genuinely managing engineers, including performance management.
• This is a role for an experienced manager, not a first step into leadership.
• Experience growing or managing other managers, for example an Associate Engineering Manager or Team Leads, is a plus.
• A strong product mindset with the confidence to challenge Product.
• You enjoy defining problems and validating solutions with PMs and you are comfortable disagreeing, proposing alternatives, and driving them to a decision.
• Technically credible and willing to get hands-on when the team needs it, while spending most of your time leading rather than in the code day to day.
• Comfortable with our stack: Python/Django on the backend, with a data stack around Snowflake, dbt, and Dagster. Exposure to forecasting, modeling, or data engineering is a strong plus.
• Strong grasp of system design, architecture, and engineering best practices.
• Excellent communication and leadership: you create clarity, trust, and accountability, with a servant-leadership mindset toward your team.
• You look beyond your own team and enjoy driving technical improvements that raise the bar across the wider Product and Engineering org.
• Fluent in English and based in a European time zone (UTC+0 to UTC+2).
