Role Description

We're looking for an Engineering Lead to own the engineering function across a full value stream — a product-aligned direction built around multiple cross-functional development teams. This is a people-first leadership role backed by deep technical credibility. Your primary job is to build strong teams: shape their structure, grow the people inside them, and create an environment where engineers do their best work and deliver reliably. You'll also be the technical anchor of the value stream — setting engineering standards, ensuring architectural quality, and making the right calls on hard technical trade-offs.

• Build the teams — define team structure, lead hiring, onboard engineers, and ensure each team has the right composition and capacity to succeed.
• Drive teams toward outcomes — set clear engineering expectations, maintain focus, remove blockers, and ensure consistent and sustainable delivery.
• Define and drive the technical roadmap aligned with product and business goals.
• Foster a culture of ownership, psychological safety, and continuous improvement at every level.
• Raise engineering maturity across the value stream: elevate practices, standards, and the technical autonomy of teams.
• Define engineering standards and architectural principles that scale across teams.
• Own architecture decisions and trade-offs at the value stream level — reviewing high-risk and cross-team cases with a focus on reliability, scalability, and long-term health.
• Surface technical risks and cross-team dependencies before they become problems.
• Drive technical debt resolution — identify, prioritise, and ensure systematic progress across teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2–3 years leading engineering teams.
• Strong full-stack engineering background: solid experience in backend (Python, Java, or Golang) and hands-on understanding of frontend (React, TypeScript, or similar).
• Proven experience designing and operating high-load production systems — high-throughput APIs, large-scale data pipelines, or similar.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems: consistency models, messaging queues, service mesh, fault isolation, and distributed tracing.
• Track record of leading through tech leads and team leads — managing managers, building alignment across teams, and driving engineering quality at scale.
• Solid grasp of system reliability: SLOs/SLIs, observability, incident management, and capacity planning.
• Comfortable representing the engineering perspective in cross-functional conversations with Product and business stakeholders.
• Strong decision-making under uncertainty — you know when to move fast and when to align first.
• Systems thinking — you see issues at the intersection of people, process, and technology.

Requirements

• NICE TO HAVE: Experience with event-driven architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc.).
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS / GCP / Azure) and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with value stream / stream-aligned team structures (e.g., Team Topologies).
• Background in real-time systems, fintech, gaming, or betting.
• Background in platform or infrastructure engineering.
