[Hiring] Director of Engineering @OneStudyTeam

2mths ago - OneStudyTeam is hiring a remote Director of Engineering. πŸ’Έ Salary: usd 180,000 - 230,000 per year πŸ“Location: USA

Role Description

As the Director of Engineering, you are someone who deeply cares about your team and the success of those around you. You are an experienced leader and manager with a strong background in SaaS based product organizations and you were once a developer yourself. You can hold your own in technical conversations, though don't need to write software. You are an energetic person with a passion to learn and can quickly and effectively take those learnings and apply them to your work. You take a servant leadership approach to management, waking up every day to improve the experiences of your team and the organization. You shine as a collaborator and are an impeccable communicator.

What You'll Be Working On

  • Delivery & Roadmap Execution: Own the tactical execution of the engineering roadmap. Partner with Product and Design to break down product requirements into clear milestones, ensuring the team consistently ships high-quality software on time.
  • Hands-on Architectural Guidance: Unblock engineering teams by participating in technical design reviews. Ensure the team builds a stable, scalable platform that successfully ingests and processes complex clinical trial data sources without technical debt.
  • Feature & Tooling Implementation: Drive the day-to-day development of predictive models and analytics tools. Work directly with data and software engineers to ensure these tools accurately surface trial bottlenecks and function reliably for end-users.
  • Sprint & Resource Management: Manage sprint capacity, budget tracking, and day-to-day resource allocation. Balance technical debt with feature delivery to maximize engineering velocity and keep data collection timelines on track.
  • Agile Process Optimization: Run, refine, and optimize the agile ceremonies and development workflows within your department. Identify and eliminate operational friction to improve the team's daily shipping cadence.
  • Line Management & Career Mentorship: Manage Engineering Managers and Tech Leads directly. Conduct regular 1-on-1s, deliver performance reviews, write career growth plans, and actively interview and onboard new engineering hires.
  • Team Health & Collaboration: Maintain a high-performing, inclusive team culture. Resolve interpersonal or cross-team friction and ensure clear communication boundaries between engineering squads.
  • Cross-Functional Execution: Serve as the primary technical point of contact for project stakeholders. Translate technical blockers, updates, and risks into clear operational timelines for non-technical partners.

Qualifications

  • BA or BS degree from college or university.
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3+ years successfully managing engineering teams.
  • Proven experience as a "manager of managers," directly leading and developing Engineering Managers and Technical Leads.
  • Track record of owning the execution and on-time delivery of complex, data-heavy software products and platforms.
  • Strong technical background in scalable architecture, cloud infrastructure, and handling complex data pipelines or predictive models.
  • Deep operational expertise in Agile/Scrum methodologies, sprint capacity planning, and continuous integration/delivery (CI/CD) workflows.
  • Ability to actively participate in and guide technical design reviews, ensuring platform stability and minimal technical debt.
  • Exceptional communication skills with a proven ability to translate technical blockers and project risks for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience fostering a high-accountability, collaborative team culture that maintains high morale during rapid growth.
  • Prior experience working within HealthTech, Biotech, or the Clinical Trials/Life Sciences industry is highly preferred.

Requirements

  • The expected pay range for this role is $180,000 - $230,000 USD per year for full-time team members.
