Role Description
The distance learning teacher works predominantly asynchronously with required synchronous weekly meetings outside of the regular school day. The distance learning teacher plans, designs, implements, and assesses an appropriate instructional program in a distance learning environment that guides and encourages a diverse group of students at all instructional levels to develop and fulfill their academic potential.

Designs learning experiences, creates and reinforces classroom expectations, develops assessments, monitors student progress, and communicates regularly with parents on student progress.

Promotes an environment that is challenging, equitable, empowering, and developmentally responsive.

Helps build on secondary level fundamentals and prepares students through a variety of curriculum pathways available to support the transition beyond graduation from high school.

Motivates students in the content and competencies of the courses, creating learning experiences that are authentic, engaging, rigorous, and relevant.

This position is eligible for remote work but may require in-person attendance at job-related meetings, training sessions, and conferences as requested by the employee's supervisor.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college

Holds or eligible for a Virginia teaching license, with an endorsement to teach in more than one subject area preferred

Expertise or readiness to teach more than one course/prep

Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum, and methodology of effective teaching

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs in a distance learning environment

Skilled in the use of multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning
-
Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents

Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications, excellent human relations skills
-
Excels in the distance learning environment as a teacher and collaborator
Requirements

Regularly talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word

Conveying detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly

Possessing normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies

Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time

Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects

Non-exempt employees teleworking will work their required scheduled hours and gain approval from their supervisor if they work more than 8 hours a day or more than 40 hours in a workweek.

Teleworking privileges can be amended, changed, or revoked based upon the performance of the employee, as well as the needs of Loudoun County Public Schools.
