Role Description
The Specialist, Scoring Service role acts as the dedicated Subject Matter Expert (SME) for one or more handscoring contracts. This position centers on overseeing content and quality at the project level. It ensures scoring tasks achieve exceptional accuracy and comply with client expectations by drawing upon extensive knowledge in English Language Arts (ELA) in both Speaking and Writing.

This role reports to a Manager within Scoring Services, Content and Quality.

Directs:
This role provides project-level guidance and direction to Scoring Directors and Supervisors on all content- and quality-related activities.
Responsibilities and Duties

Project Execution:
Assuming direct ownership of all content and quality deliverables for assigned scoring projects, from project start-up through post-project analysis.

Training and Development:
Developing and delivering item-specific training to mentor and guide Scoring Directors, Supervisors, and Scorers on all project-specific content and quality expectations.

Content Expertise:
Applying thorough knowledge of state and national standards for ELA and Social Studies to guide the development of scoring materials and serve as the subject matter expert in meetings with clients and educators.

Communication and Logistics:
Ensuring clear, daily communication with internal teams and external clients to foster a strong team environment and ensure project alignment.

Consistently meet or exceed quality, efficiency, and delivery targets for all assigned projects.

Develop and maintain a highly engaged and effective team of Scoring Directors and Supervisors.

Establish a strong, collaborative partnership with internal project managers and external clients, serving as a trusted and reliable content expert.
Qualifications

Bachelorβs degree required; degree in English, Social Sciences, or Humanities is strongly preferred.

Two (2) years of assessment industry experience as a Scoring Director or equivalent lead scoring role, with Pearson PTE scoring experience strongly preferred.

Experience leading remote scoring teams in multiple ELA projects.

Strong working knowledge of scoring reports and data-driven management.

Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

Strong technology skills, including Microsoft Office and video conferencing tools.
Working Conditions

Location:
This is a fully remote position. The employee must maintain a home office environment that is safe, secure, professional, and conducive to productive work.

Schedule:
This role requires a flexible schedule. While a typical workday aligns with standard business hours (e.g., 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM CST), the PTE project scores internationally, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The person in this role is expected to collaborate with the other assigned PTE SME to provide adequate coverage of all scoring events. This position will require evening, weekend, and holiday work as needed.

Occasional travel (approximately 5-10%) for client meetings, team workshops, or company events may be required.

Physical Demands:
This role involves prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer, as well as frequent use of standard office equipment such as a keyboard, mouse, and video conferencing tools.
Compensation at Pearson
Compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. As required by various state laws, the pay range for this position is as follows: The minimum full-time salary range is between $62,000 - $65,000. This position is eligible to participate in an annual incentive program.
