[Hiring] Sessional Lecturer - URB337H1F: Housing and Homelessness @University of Toronto

Role Description

This course will examine the paradox of housing and homelessness in Toronto, characterized by upscale development alongside increasing numbers of residents living on the streets, in encampments, in shelters, or in substandard housing. The course aims to achieve the federal government's goal: "By 2030, everyone in Canada has a home that they can afford and that meets their needs." Through readings, discussions, guest presenters, and activities, we will:

• Trace the links between housing, homelessness, and urban politics.
• Review policies and trends at the municipal, provincial/territorial, and national levels.
• Connect with urban movements to contest displacement.

Qualifications

• MA in related field.
• At least 5 years of experience teaching at the university level.
• At least 5 years of experience marking undergraduate essays.
• Evidence of recent teaching effectiveness.
• Ability to teach online if required.
• PhD in related field preferred.

Requirements

• Instructors will lecture on the themes of the course.
• Prepare the syllabus and lectures.
• Develop and administer grading, course assignments, tests, and exams.
• Mark and invigilate exams.
• Hold regular office hours.
• Oversee tutorials.
• Supervise teaching assistants.
• Duties must be performed at the campus on which the position is located.

• Sessional Lecturer I: $9,997.48 (includes 4% vacation pay).
• Sessional Lecturer I – Long Term: $10,699.22 (includes 6% vacation pay).
• Sessional Lecturer II: $10,699.22 (includes 6% vacation pay).
• Sessional Lecturer II – Long Term: $10,953.96 (includes 6% vacation pay).
• Sessional Lecturer III: $10,953.96 (includes 6% vacation pay).
• Sessional Lecturer III – Long Term: $11,228.90 (includes 6% vacation pay).
