Role Description

The Sessional Lecturer provides instruction to undergraduate students in the BA ESDT Program within the Frazer Faculty of Education. The primary responsibility is to develop and teach a theoretically, methodologically sophisticated and relevant course at the university level.

  • Deliver the course using a technology-enhanced learning approach.
  • Utilize a variety of inclusive teaching and learning strategies and assessments.
  • Prepare, deliver, and grade all course material and assignments.
  • Be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course session.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated excellent teaching contributions with a proven aptitude for teaching at the undergraduate level.
  • A strong research and program development background in the theories and applications of games, STEAM, simulations, and other similar areas in relation to learning for K-12 environments.
  • Direct experience working with K-12 students in the development and leading of formal and informal learning experiences.
  • Development and editing experience of inclusive digital games and STEAM-based programming.
  • A proven commitment to providing innovative and inclusive teaching strategies.
  • Evidence of an ability to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong evidence demonstrating theoretical and practical background in developing and delivering interactive and inclusive programs grounded in research focused on the theories of pedagogical and/or andagogical practices.
  • High level of skill in designing and leading interactive asynchronous and synchronous online environments using multiple authentic assessment strategies.
  • Openness to new and diverse perspectives of teaching and learning in undergraduate Education Studies programs.
  • Experience coordinating and supervising Teaching Assistants as applicable.
  • Excellent organizational skills to effectively manage course delivery, the marking of assignments and exams, and the ability to respond to student inquiries in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • A master’s of education, with research experience in games, STEAM, digital learning environments is required.
  • A PH.D. (or equivalent) in education focused on games, STEAM, digital learning environments is preferred.
  • 2+ years teaching online.
  • Experience in developing and supporting equity, diversity, and inclusion strategies in teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrated experience in meaningfully and effectively integrating technology in an online learning environment, including synchronous, asynchronous, and blended modes.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with experience in teaching about learning research in a faculty of education.
  • Priority will be given to an Internal Applicant who has taught any course for the University in three (3) different sessions in the past thirty-six (36) months, provided they meet the requirements for the position as outlined in the job posting.
