[Hiring] School Settlement Worker @YMCA of Three Rivers

Role Description

As a Settlement Worker, you will provide (in person and/or remote) services to newcomer clients, including:

• Information, orientation, and appropriate referrals to community and government services.
• Conducting a needs assessment to identify client’s needs and create a service plan.
• Acting as an advocate in helping newcomers access services including education, health care, and legal systems.
• Assisting with filling out forms.
• Entering information into government/department databases.
• Preparing monthly statistical reports for the Program Lead.
• Connecting with ESL schools to provide information and orientation.
• Organizing and facilitating group settlement workshops as needed.
• Connecting with community partners and exploring effective and efficient service sharing.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Completion of a community college degree/diploma or equivalent.
• 1-2 years of relevant work experience in the field of community service and immigrant settlement.
• Excellent computer knowledge of Microsoft Office and Access.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of Immigration legislation/policies affecting refugees and immigrants.
• Mediation and conflict resolution skills.
• Experience working with confidential data and client information is strongly preferred.
• Ability to speak another language is an asset, particularly Spanish, Amharic, Tigrinya, or Arabic.
• Police Vulnerable Sector Records check required.

Requirements

• Proficiency in a second language is considered an asset, with a preference for Rohingya.
