Role Description

Under the general supervision of the Special Education Administrator, this position provides consultation, assessment, and intervention services to families, staff, and students with disabilities at Baker Charter Schools (BCS). They will assist students, teachers, and parents in enabling students to derive the fullest potential educational experience from school by providing suggested methods and plans for overcoming academic, psychological, or mental health problems.

  • Participate in screening and/or the development of pre-referral interventions to determine response to intervention and whether further evaluation is needed.
  • Function as a team member in the evaluation process.
  • Conduct comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations that integrate cognitive, academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and adaptive data.
  • Implement best practices for evaluation in a primarily virtual / tele-assessment environment, ensuring standardized administration, strong rapport building, and test security.
  • Facilitate virtual testing sessions that require management of multiple digital tools simultaneously, troubleshooting technology issues as they arise, monitoring environmental and technology factors that may impact validity, and adapting communication and pacing to support students with diverse needs in an online environment.
  • Document high-quality behavioral observations, primarily within a virtual context, incorporating factors related to attention, environment, technology impact, and student engagement.
  • Interpret evaluation results utilizing an understanding of how students learn, developmental norms, and environmental context to assist educational teams in making informed, equitable eligibility decisions.
  • Collaborate with IEP teams to translate evaluation findings into meaningful instructional and behavioral support recommendations, contributing to the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans.
  • Provide culturally responsive assessments to students and families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of psychological principles, ethics, and special education law to ensure evaluation practices and eligibility decisions align with federal and state regulations (IDEA, Section 504, OARs, and related procedural safeguards).
  • Assist in navigating special education processes.
  • Provide consultation to teams on legally defensible evaluation procedures, equitable identification practices, and data-based decision making.
  • Consult with parents, teachers, and other educational personnel to help them understand child development and how it affects learning and behavior.
  • Provide consultation on the special education needs of children.
  • Provide individual, group, or consultative services for referred children whose diagnosed needs would be addressed through behavioral interventions.
  • Prepare and submit the required documentation on children with disabilities.
  • Cooperate with and develop collaborative relationships with personnel of mental health, community health, and other state and local agencies serving and supporting children with special needs. Prepare forms as requested by outside agencies.
  • Assist in conducting in-service training of BCS personnel and community members.
  • Initiate and direct appropriate research that is approved in advance by BCS.
  • Keep abreast of new developments in the field.
  • Initiate and direct a responsible route of travel; provide supervisor and team members with access to the weekly schedule and complete report of contacts and mileage forms by designated timelines.
  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with staff, students, and families at all organizational levels.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Oregon Personnel Service License with School Psychologist endorsement, required
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
  • Master's Degree in School Psychology, required
  • NCSP or Ph.D. in Psychology preferred.
  • Successful prior experience as a school psychologist/behavior support specialist/diagnostician is preferred.

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of child psychology principles, psychoeducational assessment methods, behavior modification, etc., and current developments in child psychology.
  • Advanced knowledge of special education law and ethical practice to ensure that evaluations consider any relevant contextual factors, including language acquisition, cultural and socioeconomic factors, and environmental influences on learning and behavior.
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
