Role Description
The School Counsellor at King's InterHigh provides personalised, age-appropriate one-to-one counselling support for students, working in line with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical Framework and all safeguarding procedures. The role involves:

Maintaining secure and accurate student records

Engaging in professional supervision

Supporting the wider SEN Services Hub through collaboration with staff and leadership teams

Advising teachers on adaptive strategies to support studentsβ needs

Contributing to staff training and school improvement initiatives

Co-delivering workshops for parents

Promoting an inclusive school culture that celebrates diversity and difference
Qualifications

Masters degree level qualification in counselling-related subject or equivalent

Membership of a counselling professional association such as the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, the National Counselling Society or the UK Council for Psychotherapy is desirable

Specific training in counselling younger KS2 students appropriate for the role

QTS is desirable as SEN Services Hub colleagues teach wellbeing-related courses
Requirements

Personal skills essential to counselling roles such as discretion, respectfulness, patience, tolerance and resilience

Knowledge of the correct safeguarding procedures

Experience of working in an SEN setting or significant experience of work with SEN young people and their families

Knowledge of the SEND code of practice and the practical implementation of this across all 4 broad areas of need

A working knowledge of core processes for young people with SEND such as the graduated approach through assess, plan, do, review, EHCPs, and SEN funding streams

Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills that showcase a caring and supportive stance to all stakeholders

Attention to detail, confidence in handling data, and accuracy in work
