Role Description

Safal Partners is seeking a collaborative, detail-oriented professional to serve as a Material Review Specialist, a versatile role supporting the K-12 Education practice across multiple workstreams. During an active material review, the role supports Review Leads with managing reviewer submissions, evaluating accuracy and consistency, providing feedback, and maintaining the quality of review outputs across standards alignment, quality, and suitability. Outside the active review window, the role flexes across workstreams, including reviewer recruitment, training development, and publisher submission review. This full-time position works within the education project team and partners closely with the Review Leads and Review Manager, who oversee quality assurance within an assigned review sub-workstream.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Material Review Support (Standards Alignment, Quality, and Suitability)
    • Support assigned Review Leads in executing standards alignment, quality, and suitability reviews, including logistics, communications, and quality assurance.
    • Monitor reviewer progress and evaluate compliance with applicable laws, rules, and review procedures.
    • Evaluate reviewer submissions to manage inter-rater reliability of scoring and the quality of evidence.
    • Draft written feedback, deliver live virtual coaching, and synthesize trends and common misconceptions to inform regular reviewer coaching, under the direction of the Review Lead.
    • Validate review inputs and confirm trackers reflect accurate progress, scoring outcomes, and suitability flags prior to publisher release.
  • Publisher Submission Support
    • Review publisher submissions for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with pre-approval requirements, and verify digital access to all components.
    • Develop standards alignment breakouts that identify the component parts of each student expectation using approved templates.
    • Review publisher citations and correlations for clarity and accuracy, and support publishers in making corrections through written feedback.
    • Support publisher communications, including office hours, FAQ updates, and 1:1 meetings as needed.
  • Appeals, Verification, and Reporting
    • Support the management of publisher appeals, including collecting submissions, evaluating reviewer responses, and validating inputs before release.
    • Support the report-revision process, confirming reviewers properly evaluate feedback and complete revisions ahead of final production.
    • Conduct second-layer technical reviews of review outputs to identify errors, inconsistencies, and areas needing refinement.
    • Guide reviewers on report revisions to scores, evidence, and narrative summaries, confirming consistency with program procedures.
  • Communications, Recruitment, and Training
    • Manage centralized communication channels and tier-1 support to deliver timely, consistent responses to stakeholder questions.
    • Develop and maintain support resources such as FAQs and guidance materials, and escalate recurring challenges to Review Leads.
    • Review reviewer applications and performance tasks to support recruitment, screening, and selection.
    • Lead and support live virtual and in-person reviewer trainings, and contribute to training materials, competency checks, and exit tickets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in education, curriculum and instruction, a relevant content area (e.g., ELAR, mathematics, science, social studies), or related field (Masterโ€™s preferred).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in instructional materials review, curriculum evaluation, classroom teaching, education policy, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of instructional coaching experience, including coaching, mentoring, or supporting professional learning for adults.
  • Familiarity with state academic standards, instructional materials adoption, or K-12 curriculum strongly preferred.
  • Experience reviewing applications, scoring performance tasks, or leading trainings preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a commitment to transparency, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Requirements

  • Experience reviewing or applying rubrics to instructional materials, student work, or comparable submissions, preferably in a K-12 or public-sector education setting.
  • Experience coaching adult professionals, including leading coaching conversations and supporting professional growth.
  • Experience providing clear, actionable feedback against established standards or quality expectations.

Skills

  • Ability to apply standards, rubrics, and evaluation criteria consistently across submissions and reviewers.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple submissions, deadlines, and workstreams at once.
  • Ability to translate complex information into accessible formats for reviewers, publishers, and team members.
  • Proficiency with collaborative and project management tools (e.g., Smartsheet, Microsoft Office, Teams, Google Drive, and SharePoint).

Mindset and Work Style

  • Solution-oriented, with the ability to identify risks early, escalate appropriately, and approach challenges constructively.
  • Self-sufficient in building organizational systems and structures, requiring limited task-level oversight.
  • Flexible and adaptable, able to shift across review, submission, recruitment, and training needs, and open to feedback in a fast-paced environment.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage, life and disability insurance and employee assistance programs.
  • Paid federal holidays, generous PTO, and dedicated sick leave.
  • 401(k) plan with immediate vesting and competitive company matching.
  • Flexible pathways that support advancement, mobility, and long-term development, including access to courses and certifications.
  • Opportunities to contribute to innovative, mission-driven projects with impact at the federal, state, and national levels.
  • A collaborative environment grounded in continuous improvement, and shared purpose.
